Pinto Valley is an open-pit copper mine located at the west end of the historic Globe-Miami mining district of central Arizona, approximately 80 miles east of Phoenix. Pinto Valley has been in operation since 1972 and has produced more than four billion pounds of copper. Acquired by Capstone from BHP in 2013, the mine is fully permitted through 2039 and a study is underway to potentially extend the mine life through 2050.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Compensation and Benefits Specialist is responsible for administering, analyzing, and managing employee compensation and benefits programs. This position ensures that compensation and benefits plans remain competitive, equitable, and compliant with applicable laws and regulations and organizational policies. The specialist works closely with HR leadership, finance, vendors, and employees to promote effective compensation strategies and benefit offerings that support organizational goals and employee engagement.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Conduct market salary benchmarking and compensation analysis.
  • Evaluate and recommend competitive pay and incentive strategies.
  • Perform job classification reviews on new and existing jobs to ensure proper grade leveling.
  • Partner with HR Business Partners and leadership on compensation recommendations.
  • Develop and maintain salary structures, pay grades, and compensation policies.
  • Analyze internal and external pay data to ensure market competitiveness and internal equity.
  • Support annual salary increases, merit pay, and incentive compensation processes.
  • Monitor compensation practices for compliance with federal, state, and local laws.
  • Administer employee benefit programs, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, retirement, leave programs and wellness programs.
  • Coordinate benefits enrollment, renewals, and employee communications.
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding pay, benefits, and related policies.
  • Assist with audits, regulatory reporting, and benefits vendor management.
  • Recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and employee experience.
  • Maintain HRIS compensation and benefits data, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in human resources, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related field and five (5) years of related compensation, benefits, or human resources experience or equivalent education and experience; Experience conducting salary surveys and compensation analyses.
  • Experience administering employee benefit programs.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong understanding of compensation principles and job evaluation methodologies.
  • Knowledge of federal and state employment laws related to compensation and benefits.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and HRIS systems.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP), Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS), SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification.
  • Experience with HRIS systems such as Workday, UKG, ADP, Oracle, or SAP SuccessFactors.
  • Experience utilizing and administering third-party leave management systems and vendor platforms for FMLA, ADA, and leave-of-absence administration.
WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Primarily office-based work environment.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting and computer use.
  • Occasional attendance at employee meetings, benefits fairs, or training events.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees, vendors, and management.
