RANGE OF SALARY: Based on the current Belcourt School District #7 Teacher Salary Schedule and qualifications
POSITION SUMMARY
The Guidance Department Coordinator is responsible for providing leadership, coordination, and direct supervision of all school counselors, counselors, and social workers at Turtle Mountain Community High School, in collaboration with and under the guidance of the TMCHS Principal. This position ensures the effective delivery of comprehensive guidance and student services that support the academic, career, social, and emotional development of all students. The Coordinator promotes a positive school climate, equitable access to services, and alignment of the guidance program with district goals, state standards, and the needs of the Turtle Mountain community.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise, evaluate, and provide ongoing support and professional development to all TMCHS school counselors, counselors, and social workers in coordination with the TMCHS Principal.
- Coordinate and oversee the implementation of a comprehensive, ASCA National Model-aligned guidance program that addresses the academic, career, and social-emotional needs of students in grades 9 12.
- Facilitate regular department meetings, collaborative planning, and communication among guidance staff to ensure program coherence, consistency, and continuous improvement.
- Monitor and analyze student data, trends, and outcomes related to academic performance, attendance, behavior, graduation, and post-secondary readiness; use data to guide program decisions and resource allocation.
- Serve as the primary liaison between the guidance department and TMCHS Administration, district leadership, families, and external service providers.
- Oversee the scheduling, caseload distribution, and workflow of counselors and social workers to ensure equitable and timely service delivery to all students.
- Support crisis prevention, intervention, and postvention efforts in collaboration with counselors, social workers, administration, and community mental health partners.
- Coordinate and ensure quality of services related to college and career readiness, FAFSA completion, ACT/SAT preparation, dual credit opportunities, post-secondary planning, and scholarship access.
- Develop and maintain a coordinated testing schedule for TMHS students, including ASVAB, ND A+, FastBridge, ACT, and other required assessments, ensuring appropriate communication, staffing, student rosters, testing accommodations, and follow-up.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state regulations, district policies, and professional standards governing school counseling and social work services, including FERPA, IDEA, Section 504, Title I, and ISEP.
- Collaborate with special education staff, administration, and families in the development and implementation of IEP and 504 plans as applicable to guidance program responsibilities.
- Oversee student records management and confidentiality practices within the guidance department in accordance with district policy and applicable law.
- Lead and support department participation in MTSS, RTI, and other school-wide student support frameworks.
- Organize and support department involvement in school-wide events and programs, including college fairs, wellness initiatives, career exploration activities, and student transition programming.
- Advocate for equitable and culturally responsive access to guidance and student services for all students, with particular attention to the needs of Native American students and the Turtle Mountain community.
- Participate in district-level planning, administrative meetings, professional development, and other responsibilities as assigned by the TMCHS Principal or TMCS District Administration.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the TMCHS Principal or TMCS District Administrative Leadership.
QUALIFICATIONS
- This is an in-house vacancy announcement. To be considered for in-house positions, applicants must be currently employed by Belcourt School District #7.
- Master's Degree in School Counseling, School Psychology, Social Work, Educational Leadership, or a closely related field.
- Applicants must hold an active North Dakota Educator's Professional License with a School Counselor credential, or a comparable North Dakota credential appropriate to the position, or be able to obtain such licensure prior to employment.
- Minimum of three (3) years of successful experience as a school counselor, social worker, or in a comparable student services role, preferably at the secondary level.
- Demonstrated knowledge of adolescent development, school counseling frameworks (ASCA National Model), social work practice, and multi-tiered systems of support.
- Proven leadership, supervisory, and organizational skills with the ability to coordinate a team of professional staff.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with students, families, staff, administration, and community partners.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state regulations governing school counseling and student services, including FERPA, IDEA, Section 504, Title I, and ISEP.
- Demonstrated ability to use student data and information systems to drive program planning and continuous improvement.
- Commitment to culturally responsive practice, trauma-informed approaches, and equitable access to services for all students.
- Experience working in a high school, tribal school, or comparable setting is preferred.
- Familiarity with the Turtle Mountain Chippewa community, Native American cultures, and the unique needs of students in tribal school settings is preferred.
- Must pass a background check and meet all district employment requirements.
