Job Description

*ONLY OPEN TO CURRENT FULL-TIME ANNUALLY PAID PARKS EMPLOYEES*
Major Responsibilities
- Under the general direction of borough management, with latitude for initiative and judgment, perform work in the planning, implementation, coordination, monitoring and evaluation of efforts to improve playground equipment conditions in NYC Parks' playgrounds.
- Work with the Supervisor of Mechanics to ensure that workers have the proper tools and parts, and that play equipment work is being performed and completed according to standard protocols.
- Coordinate with purchasing and shops staff to maintain an inventory of play equipment parts and supplies.
- Maintain electronic documentation of playground and play equipment care in formats prescribed, including but not limited to Asset Management Park System (AMPS) work orders, manufacturer interactions, warranty records and staff trainings.
- Receive AMPS work requests from field staff, evaluate and prioritize these requests and work with the Supervisor of Mechanics to ensure work orders are assigned to appropriate staff.
- Thoroughly inspect playgrounds, issuing work requests or contacting manufacturers as needed to address conditions.
- Regularly lead or facilitate play equipment-related trainings for agency staff, including Maintenance Workers, Park Supervisors and Managers.
- Regularly participate in meetings and deliberations by Parks' Play Equipment Committee.
- In collaboration with other Senior Analysts for Playgrounds and divisions, help to devise standardized policies and repairs related to playgrounds.
- Review Capital Designs for play equipment and collaborate with Capital staff and play equipment manufacturers to improve play equipment maintainability and durability. Inspect new play equipment prior to use.
- Review Plans for Capital Projects including play equipment and evaluate playground design and features. Attend Capital site meetings including Substantial Completion meetings to verify that installed play equipment meets all safety standards.
- Ensure compliance with Parks' directives and policies concerning play equipment.
- Working with correspondence liaisons, draft responses to community boards, elected officials and members of the public to address concerns about playground care.
- Promptly respond to requests for repair and maintenance records, and other communications from other Parks staff.
- Participate in other initiatives relating to elevating the level of care and safety in NYC Parks' playgrounds.

Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
