Responsibilities:

Driver for Hebrew Rehabilitation Center to meet transportation needs of the patients of Hebrew Rehabilitation Center including outpatient and inpatient services. Demonstrate a strong commitment to the philosophy and goals of the mission of Hebrew SeniorLife and recognize resident/patient dignity and choice in aspects of daily life.They will apply person-centered care practices to seniors including those with dementia and other physical and cognitive limitations. They will strive to make every patient encounter into a positive and meaningful experience and opportunity, while ensuring the provision of safe and efficient quality care.Scheduling for this position will be determined on an on-going basis and communicated weekly, monthly schedules will be prepared for planning purposes.

  • Practice acts of hospitality and kindness, actively greet and help people both on and off the bus.

  • Compiles with traffic regulations to operate vehicle in a safe and courteous manner

  • Ability to assist residents/patients with wheelchairs and walkers on and off transportation vehicles using safe patient handling techniques

  • Work from written requisitions or verbal instructions

  • Prioritize urgency of work requests

  • Follow standard and prescribed safety regulations

  • Reports any equipment found to be unsafe or broken immediately to supervisor

  • Puts Customer Service first: Ensures that residents and families receive the highest quality of service in a safe, caring and compassionate atmosphere which recognizes the individuals' needs and rights

  • Maintain the confidentiality and security of all facility and patient related information (HIPPA)

  • Subject to being called in for emergencies

  • Arrive 15 minutes before scheduled trip to warm up or cool off the car

  • Record on daily sheet starting and ending mileage, starting and ending times and your initials.

  • Report any problems or repairs that need to be attended to the Transportation Coordinator.

  • Use of phone only when necessary; no personal calls allowed on bus phone.

  • Communicate in real time with Transportation Coordinator for departure and arrival and status of patients

  • Store gas receipts in monthly envelope provided.

  • Turn gas envelope in to Transportation Coordinator at the end of each month.

  • Schedule all vehicle maintenance and inspections.

  • Responsible for vehicle fleet cleanliness.

  • During times of no scheduled transportation appointments, provide support to life enhancement and nursing teams with patient engagement activities as requested, such as providing encouragement, companionship, and feeding assistance to patients during mealtimes.

  • Assist with all other duties as assigned Transportation Coordinator and Administrative Director

  • Completes special projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must wear seat belt when driving.

  • Maintain professional appearance at all times

  • Comply with all safety rules and regulations

  • Comply with Position Responsibilities

  • Keep transportation vehicle in a clean and tidy condition

  • Familiar with the Boston, Massachusetts geography

  • Must be professional, proactive, collaborative, conscientious and results-oriented individual.

  • Must be motivated to learn and flexible to change.

  • Must have an optimistic and positive demeanor, excellent oral and written communication skills, good intuition and able to adapt to changing priorities and display good, sound judgment with a sense of humor.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Must have a Massachusetts Driver's License with ability to operate vehicles.

  • Must be able to read, write and understand the English Language

  • 3 years experience in related work

  • Obtain BLS, EMT, or First Responder certification within 90 days

  • Demonstrated ability to think clearly during emergency situations.

  • Strong interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work relatively unsupervised and make independent decision

  • Computer literacy required; experience with Windows, Word, Excel
