Job description

Reno Staffing is looking for a packaging technicians for a food manufacturer in the North Valleys area!


This is a temp/temp to hire position with an excellent food manufacturer that requires following the good manufacturing practices.

Shift: Monday-Friday 2:00 p.m.-10:30 p.m.
Pay: $20.43/hr.
Location: North Reno, NV 89506
Summary:
The Production Technician is under the direct supervision of the lead operator as well as Production Supervisor. This position is responsible for preparing, inspecting, and packaging finished goods in accordance to the company’s quality and efficiency standards. These duties and tasks span throughout the Production packaging
area. All duties and tasks are to be performed in a safe manner ensuring safety within the production facility.

Packaging Area’s work definition
Ensure finished goods are packaged safely and efficiently according to company standards.
Perform a final inspection of finished goods in accordance with the company’s quality standards in a safe and efficient manner.

General
• Notify Lead when a machine or quality related issue is found. Let the lead make the decision to call Maintenance, QA or the shift Supervisor.
• Perform Washout, Hot Rinse and Changeover with correct steps.
• Attain packaging materials; as needed. Ask the lead if help is needed to down stack pallets.
• Assemble pallet bottoms and tops when running Costco product.
• Assemble corrugated box when doing hand packing.
• Change film roll when needed.
• Clear minor errors on bagger when lead is on break or lunch.
• Ergonomically perform all tasks to ensure safety in compliance with GMP standards, OSHA regulations, and company policies
• Adhere to required PPE standards in accordance with the task requirements.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Follow correct rotation per company policy.
Sorting
• Inspect and sort all crackers within designated timeframe distinguishing between burnt, under cooked, and satisfactory guidelines.
• Gather kick out bags from each equipment. Rerun good bags through equipment. Open bags that are not in spec and put the crackers back onto conveyor.

Patting
• Place packaged product correctly onto conveyor into cartoner to ensure efficiency.
• Inspect each bag for any foreign materials, bad crackers and open seals as you are patting.
• Clear minor errors and jams on cartoner.
• Retrieve kick out bags.
Floating
• Keep the carton magazine loaded on the cartoner.
• Help clear minor errors and jams on the cartoner.
• Check the gluer on cartoner periodically. Refill glue if needed.
• Put kick out bags before X-Ray.
• Maintain a clean work area free of debris and product by minimizing the amount of product that falls onto the floor.
• Insert empty hoppers into overflow conveyor.
• Insert hoppers containing product into docking stations. Put hopper tags on hoppers.
Palletizing
• Palletize cases of finished product following the case count per pallet required.
• Check lot number and best by date as well as the box quality.
• Add corrugated box into caser.
• Check the gluers on the caser periodically. Refill glue if needed.
• Move finished pallet to wrapping machine to wrap it. Then move wrapped pallet to correct location.
• Clear minor errors and jams on Caser, Box maker and Box gluer.
• Open kick out cases and repack good cartons or cases.

  • Comply with all safety and quality policies, practices and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to the shift Supervisor.
  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
  • Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill.
At the discretion of your lead or supervisor, you could be required to perform additional job related activities not specifically outlined above.


Competency:
To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:
  • Extensive physical activity performing strenuous daily activities of a primarily production/technical nature.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items, works with the fingers, and perceives attributes of objects and materials.
  • Ability to have clear vision at 20 inches or less; or 20 feet or more.
  • Ability to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Ability to judge distances and spatial relationships.
  • Ability to adjust the eyes to bring an object into sharp focus.
  • Ability to exert 56 pounds of force every 15 minutes; lift 7 to 10 pounds every minute.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization
  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one-or two-step instructions
  • Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables
Work Environment
  • Well-lighted, non-heated and/or non-air conditioned production setting with adequate ventilation
  • Wet or humid conditions (non-weather)
  • Work near moving mechanical parts
  • Air contamination of fumes or caustic chemicals
  • Atmosphere with high noise levels
Required Education and Experience:
  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED) or;
  • 3-6 months of experience working in a food related field, manufacturing industry, an industrial setting, construction, or farming or;
  • Letter of Recognition for volunteering for at least 3-6 months

A resume with relevant work experience and interview will be required. A drug test will be required upon offer acceptance and will include testing for THC.
