What is a Conveyancing job?

A conveyancing job involves managing the legal aspects of property transactions, including buying, selling, and transferring ownership. Conveyancers ensure all legal documents are in order, conduct property searches, liaise with stakeholders, and handle contracts and payments. They work to ensure a smooth transfer of property ownership while protecting the interests of their clients.

How much does a conveyancer make in the US?

In the US, conveyancers typically earn between $45,000 and $70,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and the complexity of transactions. Many conveyancers work in law firms or real estate agencies and may require licensing or certification to practice professionally.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Conveyancing position, and why are they important?

To thrive in conveyancing, you need a solid understanding of property law, attention to detail, and familiarity with real estate transaction processes, often supported by relevant legal qualifications or certifications such as a law degree or specific conveyancing accreditation. Proficiency in case management systems, Land Registry portals, and contract drafting software is commonly required. Excellent organizational skills, clear communication, and problem-solving abilities enable you to manage multiple transactions and liaise effectively with clients, agents, and other legal professionals. These skills are critical for ensuring smooth property transfers, minimizing errors, and maintaining strong client relationships.

Who is cheaper, solicitor or conveyancer?

Conveyancers generally charge lower fees than solicitors for property transactions because they specialize specifically in conveyancing and often have lower overhead costs. Solicitors may offer a broader range of legal services and typically charge higher rates, especially if additional legal advice is needed. The actual cost depends on the complexity of the transaction and the provider chosen.

What skills do you need to be a conveyancer?

Conveyancers need strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and knowledge of property law and legal procedures. They should be proficient in using legal software and have good organizational skills to manage multiple cases efficiently. Certification or licensing may be required depending on the region.

What are the main challenges faced by conveyancers in their daily work?

Conveyancers often manage multiple transactions simultaneously, which can be challenging due to tight deadlines and the need to coordinate between buyers, sellers, agents, and legal institutions. You may encounter unexpected title issues, delays with third parties, or last-minute changes that require prompt resolution and flexibility. Staying up to date with evolving property laws and regulations is also essential to ensure compliance and client satisfaction. A strong organizational approach and good communication skills help conveyancers navigate these challenges efficiently.

What exactly does a conveyancer do?

A conveyancer is a legal professional who manages the transfer of property ownership from one person to another. They prepare and review legal documents, conduct property searches, and ensure all legal requirements are met for a smooth transaction. Conveyancers often work closely with clients, real estate agents, and solicitors to facilitate property sales and purchases.

This role requires the ability to manage residential purchase, sale, and refinance files from start to finish independently, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely closings in a fast-paced practice.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of residential real estate conveyancing experience in Alberta
  • Proven ability to independently manage residential purchase, sale, and refinance files from opening to post-closing
  • Strong working knowledge of Alberta Land Titles, lender instructions, and Law Society trust and conveyancing requirements
  • Experience preparing and reviewing conveyancing documents including transfers of land, mortgages, discharges, and closing packages
  • Ability to handle a high volume of files while maintaining accuracy and meeting strict deadlines
  • Strong communication skills for liaising with clients, realtors, lenders, and opposing counsel
  • Proficiency with conveyancing and practice management software (such as Unity, Conveyancer, Clio, or similar systems)

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Is an experienced residential real estate conveyancer who can confidently manage files from opening through to post-closing with minimal supervision

  • Is highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Communicates professionally and clearly with clients, realtors, lenders, and internal team members
  • Takes pride in delivering accurate, timely, and client-focused service
  • Thrives in a collaborative law firm environment while also working independently and taking ownership of their files
  • Is dependable, proactive, and committed to contributing to the long-term success of the firm

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced conveyancer seeking a busy, challenging, and rewarding position within a collaborative and supportive law firm environment. Our client firm offers a positive team culture, strong support, and the opportunity to work on a steady volume of residential real estate files in a well-organized practice.
