Visium Resources has been asked to identify qualified candidates for this Senior Controls Engineer position. This position is a contract opportunity, which is expected to be on-site Mon. - Fri. (5am - 2pm) in Anaheim, CA for a duration of Two years.

Summary:

The Senior Controls Engineer provides advanced technical expertise in the field deployment, troubleshooting, sustainment, and optimization of Resort's lighting control, HVAC, Energy Management System (EMS), and Building Management System (BMS) controls. This role acts as a lead field resource, supporting both day-to-day system operations and the successful delivery of improvement projects. The Senior Controls Engineer mentors' others, drives resolution of complex technical problems, and supports capital improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead hands-on field troubleshooting, diagnostics, commissioning, and repairs for EMS, HVAC, BMS, and lighting control systems.
  • Provide in-depth technical support and training for controls systems, hardware, field sensors, controllers, and lighting network infrastructure.
  • Conduct advanced field assessments of operational equipment and systems, documenting findings to support proposals, scope, and justification for capital improvement projects.
  • Lead and execute the design, development, revision, and management of all automation/BMS system documentation (drawings, schematics, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, sequences of operation, panel schedules) throughout capital projects and system sustainment.
  • Lead the development, configuration, and optimization of software and interfaces for automation/BMS controls, including advanced DAS programming, GUIs, dashboards, alarming, notifications, and related reporting/analytics. (approximately 35-50% of the role)
  • Lead or oversee the design and construction of industrial control panels to UL508A standards, ensuring code compliance for automation and BMS controls.
  • Drive integration and optimization of automation/BMS platforms with Resort wide analytics, dashboarding, and facility visualization/reporting systems.
  • Provide technical project leadership in system commissioning, acceptance testing, troubleshooting, and complex field investigations.
  • Analyze system trends and historical reporting to optimize operations; develop recommendations for process improvements and capital projects.
  • Mentor controls engineers, operations, and technical staff, providing training on best practices, documentation, and regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborate as the technical lead with engineering, IT, asset management, project management, and vendors.
  • Ensure strict adherence to NEC, company standards, and local code compliance; guide emergency/system recovery efforts.
  • Support lighting controls design and sustainment. 
  • Exhibit advanced proficiency with hand tools, test equipment, and diagnostics.

 

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years progressive experience leading automation or BMS systems projects.
  • Advanced experience developing GUIs, dashboards, alarming, data visualization, and DAQ/DAS platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience in UL508A panel design/build for controls systems.
  • Proven record of technical project leadership, process optimization, and mentoring staff.
  • Demonstrated experience with managing engineering projects from initiation through completion, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, monitoring budgets, and ensuring that deliverables meet quality and compliance standards.
  • Experience with monitoring electrical power distribution, power metering, PMCS, energy management.
  • Proficiency with SCADA, PLCs, and communication protocols (e.g., Modbus RTU and TCP/IP, BACnet, and Ethernet IP).
  • Strong understanding of electrical distribution systems (medium and low voltage), protective relaying, and load management.
  • Experience with energy management systems (EMS) and utility billing platforms.
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering

Preferred:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Familiarity with LEED, ISO 50001, or other energy certification frameworks.
  • Experience with the operation of large multi-building campuses, facility, utilities, and controls integration.
  • AVEVA Wonderware, DAS, and Historian experience.
