The Electrical & Controls Engineering Manager oversees and directs the multi-disciplined electrical and controls engineering team for the systems and integration group that executes the design, manufacture, and implementation of cellular and turn-key packaging system applications. The position is part of the leadership team and reports to the Vice President/General Manager. and is located in our Greenville, SC office. In this role you will...
  • Manage all engineering activities within a department including resource loading; innovation; design; standards; procedures; and product development, implementation, and testing.
  • Lead the department in employing a culture of sustained lean/continuous improvement practices.
  • Work collaboratively with fellow department managers to communicate and to solve joint challenges.
  • Maintain staff job results by training, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; promoting positive employee relations; planning, monitoring, and appraising performance results.
  • Develop and communicate individual growth paths for direct reports.
  • Lead recruiting and hiring of direct reports.
  • Work with senior leadership to develop both short-term and long-term business goals/objectives. Lead department direct reports to participate and support achieving the goals/objectives.
  • Manage and communicate project labor/material WIP and forecasting costs.
  • Provide guidance and support to the commercial applications and sales departments on potential orders.
  • Define, develop, and implement project execution processes that employ repeatable systems for consistency in excellence.
  • Generate and oversee risk analysis as they apply to controls systems and implement plans to mitigate the customer's and the company's exposure.
  • Develop and drive key performance indicators to the highest standards of performance in safety, quality, delivery and cost.
  • Remain abreast of new and legacy industry standards, controls component migration, and national/local electrical codes. Ensure direct reports comply with current standards and codes.
  • When labor demands exceed department capacity, periodically support direct reports by assuming responsibilities in controls system design, programming, field commissioning, and field start-up.
  • Visit job sites to support direct reports in the field.

Who we're looking for?
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering or technical field or substantial applicable experience in the field in lieu of degree.
  • 10+ years of experience combined in facility and equipment maintenance and/or electrical/controls engineering, 5 years minimum in a leadership function.
  • Experience supervising a multi-disciplined team - electrical and controls.
  • Effective change management, problem solving, and communication skills (both oral and written).
  • Proficient with manufacturing processes, techniques, and practices.
  • Experience reading mechanical prints and electrical schematics.
  • Able to define a problem, gather data to draw conclusions. and develop appropriate plans to address.
  • Excellent time management, organizational, and prioritization abilities.
  • Relevant experience working with a Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP) system.
  • Proficient in business software (MS Office or similar).
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally approximately 5-20% of time; international customers will require off-normal hour interface.
