The Company builds, owns, and operates on-farm anaerobic digestion facilities and is continuing to scale through an extensive national expansion of its Farm Powered platform. It is committed to advancing decarbonization by reducing greenhouse gas emissions from farms and food waste, generating renewable energy, and supporting regenerative agriculture on partner farms. We are seeking a Controller for the overall responsibility and leadership of the accounting and shared service operations, and to be a key member of the Finance leadership team to help design and enact the vision of the financial group as the Company scales. Reporting to the VP-Finance, and working closely with the CFO, this role will lead overall controllership responsibilities with a primary focus on managing all internal processes and procedures, consolidation and financial reporting, financial account support structure, assist with expanding the Company' technology reporting platform in key areas, US GAAP technical assessment and responsibility, team management, and auditor responsibilities.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Become a clear leader within the scaling Company organization, as well as within the finance group
  • Proactively develop and implement a vision for the finance department
  • Become intimately familiar with business fundamentals; proactively reach out and work directly with business functions; become thoroughly knowledgeable and well conversant with other business leaders in the organization
  • Proactive and effective management of team of individuals responsible for financial accounting and shared services; effective recruiting of individuals; effective coaching and mentoring of existing staff, both within the direct group as well as within the Finance group as a whole
  • Leveraging the effective close process developed to-date, responsible for the continued design, management, and delivery of the Company's monthly close process and delivery and communication of financial information, including effective implementation and utilization of the Company's new ERP
  • Responsible for all aspects of the timely preparation of complete and accurate financial statements on a monthly basis; effective procedures developed to manage all aspects of reporting process, including communication with CFO and executive leadership
  • Responsible for the team's preparation of US GAAP technical assessments; detailed understanding of business specifics and how to then interpret/apply US GAAP requirements as applicable; drafting of position papers to outline Company's conclusion (as consistent with US GAAP)
  • Responsible for developing, updating, and maintaining Policies & Procedures with respect to the organization's fiscal compliance & control procedures; adequate reassessment of controls (and design/implementation of new, as needed) commensurate with the conversion to the Company's new ERP system, and scaling of the organization; continually assess internal controls and make improvements
  • Responsible for all aspects of audit requirements; coordinate fiscal audit by independent audit firm; responsible for managing all aspects of the audit, including deliverables, audit schedule, meeting deadlines for deliverables, complete and accurate preparation of deliverables; effective communication with auditors at all times
  • Responsible for coordinating tax return filing process with 3rd party tax preparation firm and shareholder (LLC/Partnership)
  • Responsible for proactive assistance, design, and scaling of the Company's on-going ERP implementation; become a key contributor to the ERP process
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 10-15+ years of relevant experience; CPA/MBA required
  • Public accounting experience; ideally at Manager level
  • Takes full ownership over all work products; complete and accurate preparation of all work product for review and discussion; acute attention to detail
  • Experience and confidence with handling the multi-faceted elements of a Finance organization to bring together a well-defined vision and implementation plan for change, which will support the growth initiatives of the Company
  • Preferred experience in a high growth company; entrepreneurial-driven individual comfortable developing and implementing required/new processes and procedures
  • Experience building and leading teams; demonstrated focus on developing employees; builds strong working relationships and has exceptional leadership skills
  • Experience with growth and acquisition accounting, including all elements of purchase price accounting requirements
  • Ability and desire to partner with executives across all functional areas of the company; able to confidently interact with other senior level individuals and executives in the Company
  • Demonstrates excellent financial and quantitative skills
  • Communicates effectively at all levels in the organization and across functions; has strong presentation skills; collaborates well with colleagues using adept social skills
  • Prepares and presents complete and accurate information at all times; takes ownership over all aspects of work product
  • Works independently using project management skills
