Job description

A highly regarded institutional real estate investment manager is seeking a Controller to lead accounting for its rapidly growing digital infrastructure / data center development platform.

This is a high-visibility, hands-on role spanning the full real estate lifecycle development accounting, project cost control, forecasting, operating accounting, corporate accounting, and team leadership. The Controller will work closely with senior Development, Construction, Portfolio Management, Investment, and Finance professionals while helping build scalable processes for a growing business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead accounting for large-scale real estate development projects from initial construction through stabilization
  • Own development accounting, job costing, cost allocations, project setup, budgets, reforecasts, and budget-to-actual analysis
  • Maintain project accounting within Yardi Job Cost
  • Calculate development, incentive/promote, leasing, property management, and related fees
  • Partner closely with Development and Construction teams on project costs, contracts, forecasting, and financial analysis
  • Oversee transition from development into operating/property accounting
  • Lead monthly reporting, reconciliations, operating budgets, CAM/recoveries, tenant accounting, and third-party property manager coordination
  • Oversee corporate close, budgeting, forecasting, audit support, and key accounting processes
  • Develop and mentor accounting staff while helping establish processes and controls as the platform grows

Ideal Background

  • Progressive accounting experience
  • Significant real estate development accounting experience
  • Strong knowledge of job costing, construction/development costs, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
  • Experience with Yardi, MRI, or comparable real estate accounting software
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Strong business-partner mentality and ability to work across accounting, development, construction, and investment teams
  • Comfortable operating in a growing environment where processes are still being built and refined
  • BS in Accounting

Experience with data centers, mission-critical facilities, or other complex ground-up development is particularly attractive, although strong broader commercial real estate development experience is highly relevant.

Compensation:base + 30%40% annual bonus + profit sharing
