Job description

Silgan Containers is seeking a Plant Controller to provide plant-level manufacturing accounting and finance expertise at our Burlington, IA, manufacturing facility. This role focuses on cost accounting, inventory control, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and SOX internal controls within a structured manufacturing environment.
The Plant Controller reports to the Plant Manager and partners closely with plant operations and corporate finance to ensure accurate reporting, strong internal controls, and effective financials for manufacturing operations.

What You'll Do as a Plant Controller
  • Assist with inventory accuracy, including quarterly physical inventories, audit cadence, and variance resolution
  • Manage monthly closing, plant financial statements, and standardized financial reporting in accordance with corporate timelines
  • Prepare budgeting, forecasting, and annual operating plan submissions
  • Maintain standard costs, cost accounting processes, and bills of materials
  • Manage compliance with SOX internal controls and maintain audit readiness
  • Participate in production meetings and conduct regular plant walkthroughs
  • Partner with plant management on manufacturing finance and cost management
  • Provide day-to-day oversight of the plant accounting clerk and plant planner
  • Collaborate with corporate finance on reporting accuracy and control compliance

What You Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 3-5 years of manufacturing accounting or manufacturing finance experience
  • Strong knowledge of cost accounting, inventory controls, and month-end close
  • Working knowledge of GAAP principles
  • Experience with SOX-aligned or internal control environments
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and process-focused work style
  • Comfortable managing plant accounting duties with minimal supervision
  • Strong ability to meet deadlines while working collaboratively
  • Prior people management experience preferred
  • JD Edwards or ERP system experience preferred
