The Controller directs financial activities for the organization by planning, directing and coordinating all accounting operational functions. Manages the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of business results. Prepares internal financial statements and other information for management vital to the decision-making process.

Responsibilities
  • Preparation of quarterly reforecast incorporating historical results and future assumptions.
  • Assessing current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement and implementing new processes.
  • Preparation of work papers supporting the monthly close process and month end balances.
  • Review and posts receipts and payments to appropriate ledgers, spreadsheets, records, and databases.
  • Audits invoices against purchase orders, researches discrepancies, and approves for payment.
  • Provides advance warning of variances to most recent budget / forecast in a no surprises manner.
  • Evaluating accounting and internal control systems.
  • Directs preparation of budgets, reviews budget proposals, and prepares necessary supporting documentation and justification.
  • Provides counsel and advice to peer management in an effort to optimize operational results.
  • Coordinates activities of external auditors.
  • Prepares reports required by regulatory agencies.
  • Acts as close confidant to Plant Manager of operation.
  • Hiring, training and retaining competent accounting staff.

Qualifications
  • Three (3) years of experience as a Controller, or Five (5) years of experience in a public accounting firm (Big 4 or Middle Market)
  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
  • Five (5) years of experience interpreting financial reports, and legal documents.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience presenting information to various levels of management (ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or executive teams.)
  • Five years of experience working with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Eight years of experience applying concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

PREFERRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Experience as an audit manager / senior associate at a CPA firm (Big 4 or Middle Market) strongly preferred
    • Experience in a manufacturing environment or with manufacturing clients preferred
    • Experience with inventory management (year end physical counts or recurring cycle counts) preferred
    • CPA preferred
