Security Systems Engineer
NRG Controls is seeking a talented Security Systems Engineer to join our Engineering team. This full-time role is ideal for professionals passionate about electronic security systems, offering the opportunity to work on diverse installation projects and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Position Summary
The Security Systems Engineer is responsible for designing and preparing complete electronic security system layouts for installation projects, including card access control, CCTV, and intrusion detection systems. You will work closely with project managers, estimators, field technicians, consulting engineers, and owners to ensure all system designs meet applicable codes, standards, and customer requirements.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Design card access control systems including controller placement, reader layouts, door hardware schedules, and credential management infrastructure.
  • Develop CCTV system designs including camera placement plans, field of view analysis, recording infrastructure, and network bandwidth calculations.
  • Prepare intrusion detection system layouts including sensor placement, control panel configurations, zone assignments, and annunciation drawings.
  • Produce detailed Visio drawings in Smartware Studio including floor plans, riser diagrams, device layouts, and wiring details.
  • Generate device and material lists for submittals.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable standards.
  • Coordinate closely with project managers, estimators, and installers to ensure design accuracy and constructability.
  • Submit drawings for owner and consulting engineer review and approval, and incorporate plan review comments into final design documents.
  • Support field technicians during installation with clarification drawings, device counts, and design modifications.
  • Attend job site meetings and assist in design-related problem solving when required.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation and revision control throughout the design and construction process.
  • Coordinate system integration requirements between access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, and other building systems (e.g., fire alarm, BMS).
  • Must be able to work independently with little to no supervision.
  • Must be able to consistently deliver projects on time while meeting defined operational goals and performance benchmarks.
Qualifications
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Building Automation Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred.
  • At least 5 years of experience in working with Access Control Systems, CCTV Systems, and Intrusion Detection Systems.
  • Working knowledge of systems and components such as Axis, Verkada, Milestone, Halo, and Napco are preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural, electrical, and low-voltage drawings.
  • Understanding of IP networking fundamentals as they relate to security system design and infrastructure.
