Job description

Job Summary: Provide compassionate, direct patient care across all age groups from neonates to geriatrics during the perioperative period. Serve as the Circulating RN by maintaining continuous communication with surgeons and anesthesia providers, ensuring equipment readiness, and supporting the surgical team throughout procedures. Prepare patients in the preoperative area by obtaining health histories, initiating IVs, and administering pre-op medications as ordered. Manage patient recovery in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) through all phases until discharge.
Essential Functions:
  • Approach patients with kindness and empathy, responding therapeutically to distress or anxiety.
  • Provide clear explanations and reassurance to patients consistently.
  • Adapt nursing care to meet the unique needs of patients from neonate to geriatric stages.
  • Assess and respond promptly to physical symptoms and changes, including cardiorespiratory status.
  • Effectively manage pain using appropriate techniques and educate patients and families on pain control.
  • Maintain a safe environment that minimizes medical errors and promotes quality care.
  • Handle special equipment and instruments with care and precision.
  • Monitor behavioral and physiological changes due to medications and act accordingly.
  • Ensure proper patient positioning and protection during procedures.
  • Prepare and drape patients correctly, maintaining strict aseptic technique throughout all surgical procedures.
  • Clean and restock operating rooms between cases and after terminal cleaning based on infection control standards.
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program with at least an Associate Degree.
  • Current Registered Nurse licensure in a U.S. state or approved compact license.
  • Certifications required within one year of hire: ACLS, NRP, PALS, BLS.
  • Minimum of one year operating room experience preferred; willingness to train in perioperative nursing.
  • Preferred certifications include CPAN, CAPA, or CNOR; BSN degree is a plus.
