Our projects are local, so you don't live out of a suitcase - you live your life. This commitment to our team and values has earned us recognition as the #1 Top Workplace in Arizona and the #2 Top Workplace in the USA for midsize business in construction from USA Today/AZcentral.com.

And here's what truly sets us apart: Felix is the only General Contractor in Arizona with in-house General Contracting, Electrical, and Industrial Controls UL508A-certified panel shop—all under one roof. We've grown into a $200M company with 400+ employee-owners by keeping it simple: work hard, work safe, and do it right.

We Build What Matters.

As a Design Engineer at Felix Construction, you will be responsible for preparing schematics, layout drawings, bill of materials, and submittals for electrical control panels according to UL508A and NEC. This role is integral to our Electrical Department and contributes directly to the creation of world class industrial control systems. You will collaborate with end-users, consulting engineers, project managers, and panel fabricators to ensure systems meet the highest quality standards.

The position offers opportunities to make an impact while working on a wide variety of projects to solve challenging applications. This role reports to the Design Engineering Manager under the Director of Industrial Automation and Controls, who will provide guidance and support as you help drive Felix's continued success in the industrial construction industry.

What You'll Do
  • Utilize AutoCAD to draft electrical schematics, wiring diagram, and panel layouts
  • Develop BOMs, I/O lists, and requirements for control panels
  • Interpret client specifications and communicate with customers to understand objectives and preferences
  • Understand vendor data sheets to determine functionality and applicability of components
  • Use knowledge of fabrication techniques, UL standards and field installation to develop drawing packages
  • Document control panel designs, revisions, and updates accurately and comprehensively
  • Troubleshoot problems that occur during startup that are caused by incorrect drawings, changes in customer desires, inaccurate specifications, or other technical issues
  • Collaborate with project managers and estimators to assess potential projects and submit proposals
  • Assess current project conditions with field site visits
  • Serve as technical lead for design department and mentor less experienced staff, which includes supervising Designers/Drafters
Who You Are
  • Electrical Engineering degree from 4-year university or equivalent industrial electrical experience
  • 5+ years of experience in industrial controls
  • Strong skills in AutoCAD and Bluebeam
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs including but not limited to: Word, Excel, Teams and PowerPoint
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in the English language
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives
  • Ability to take initiative and handle ambiguity professionally
  • Must have the legal right to work in the U.S. without sponsorship indefinitely
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record
  • Complete pre-employment drug screen
