Industry UsageCommon in management, project oversightCommon in manufacturing, production, and quality assurance

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Control Systems Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Control Systems Engineer, you need a strong background in electrical engineering, automation, and process control, often supported by a relevant engineering degree. Familiarity with PLC programming, SCADA systems, and industry certifications such as ISA CAP or Siemens TIA Portal is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication help you excel in collaborative and high-stakes environments. These skills ensure efficient, safe, and optimized system operations across industrial and manufacturing settings.

What are some common challenges faced by Control Systems Engineers, and how can they be addressed on the job?

Control Systems Engineers often encounter challenges related to integrating new technology with legacy systems, troubleshooting unexpected system behaviors, and working under tight project deadlines. Effective communication with cross-functional teams and a proactive approach to documentation can help minimize integration issues. Staying current with industry standards and best practices also enables engineers to implement robust solutions and adapt quickly to evolving requirements.

What are Control Freaks in a professional context?

In a professional context, 'Control Freaks' typically refers to individuals who have a strong desire to oversee and manage every aspect of a project or task, often to ensure that everything meets their personal standards. While this is not an official job title, the term is commonly used to describe people in the workplace who may struggle to delegate tasks and prefer to be involved in all decision-making processes. This behavior can sometimes be beneficial for ensuring quality and consistency, but it can also lead to micromanagement and hinder team collaboration. It's important for 'control freaks' to strike a balance between maintaining high standards and empowering others to contribute effectively.

Job description

Now Hiring: Electrician Extraordinaire
Location: Hawaiian Islands
Company: Control Freaks Hawaii
Letโ€™s get one thing straight โ€” we donโ€™t do โ€œgood enough.โ€
Weโ€™re Control Freaks Hawaii, and our electricians? Theyโ€™re the hardest-working crew on the islands. We take pride in doing things right the first time, every time. No shortcuts. No egos. Just high-quality electrical work and a team that shows up for each other day in, day out.
Weโ€™re not just looking for someone who knows how to wire a panel and bend a pipe. Weโ€™re looking for a true craftsperson โ€” someone who treats every install like itโ€™s going into their own home (if their home also had a killer view and a resort spa budget).
So hereโ€™s the deal:
What Youโ€™ll Do:
  • Residential and commercial electrical work โ€“ new construction, remodels, high-end custom homes, and the occasional mystery panel that hasn't been touched since the '80s.
  • Work on integrated projects with low voltage and AV teams (yes, our tech guys are cool too).
  • Follow codes, read plans, and install clean, code-compliant, actually beautiful work.
  • Take pride in a job well done โ€” and then do the next one even better.

What You Bring:
  • Hawaii Journeyman license (or actively working toward one).
  • Experience in residential/commercial electrical work.
  • Ability to think, plan, and hustle like a pro.
  • A deep respect for craftsmanship โ€” you know quality when you see it, and you never settle for less.
  • Good attitude, great work ethic, and no fear of heat, ladders, or early mornings.
  • Bonus points if you can laugh at your own jokes (we will).

What You Get:
  • Competitive pay (because youโ€™re worth it).
  • Full benefits: health, dental, vision, PTO, holidays.
  • 401K because we want you to invest in your future, and we're going to help you do it!
  • Supportive team culture that values hard work, high standards, and zero micromanagement.
  • Occasional pup visits to the shop and talk-story sessions over coffee.

But hereโ€™s the real truth:
Our electrical team sets the bar, then rewires it for better grounding. If youโ€™re not ready to put in the work, bring your best, and constantly improve, this probably isnโ€™t the right fit. But if youโ€™ve got the skills and the mindset to hang with the islandโ€™s best? We want to hear from you.
Apply now and show us youโ€™ve got what it takes to wire paradise.
(Or at least do it safely, cleanly, and to code.)
