What you will be doing!
- Investigating and identifying job scope; developing schedules and cost estimates; contributing to design planning.
- Participating in and/or leading on-site field walkdowns, job investigations, and meetings with internal customers.
- Documenting identified hazards, risks, job scope, design inputs, and requirements.
- Developing estimates for duration and cost of task/job execution; participating in developing design planning documentation; attending and/or leading pre-job briefs and team meetings.
- Understanding and communicating the scope of work, taking ownership of assigned tasks, and recognizing how tasks impact the overall design plan.
- Designing new and modified/retrofitted instrumentation and control systems; executing design plans.
- Executing assigned tasks in accordance with approved design plans, procedures, and standards.
- Preparing engineering design documents, requirements, descriptions, bases, technical specifications, standards, procedures, and analysis reports.
- Preparing technical calculations and reports in support of design activities.
- Reviewing technical content prepared by peers.
- Executing work and coordinating within a team environment; responding to requests for assistance and seeking support when needed; contributing to team efforts to ensure successful job completion.
- Identifying and resolving technical issues; escalating concerns in a timely manner as necessary.
- Signing off as the responsible design engineer (designer of record) for relevant design documentation, once PEO licensing and experience prerequisites are fulfilled.
- Providing construction and commissioning support, and ensuring proper job closure.
- Responding to support requests during construction/commissioning phases; reviewing and dispositioning Field Change Requests (FCRs) as the responsible engineer.
- Participating in on-site walkdowns to verify installation and commissioning are completed per approved design documentation, and ensuring deviations are documented on approved FCRs.
- Participating in revising or reviewing design documentation to reflect As-Built conditions and fulfill job closure requirements.
- Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What we are looking for:
- Education
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering with preference to a degree in I&C Engineering from a recognized university.
- A requirement is to be a member of the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO), registered in the PEO Engineer Internship Training Program, or eligible for membership with the PEO.
- Experience
- 5 - 10 years of relevant experience.
- Experience with instrumentation and controls, including analogue, hard-wired, PLC controls and project management would be an asset.
- Experience leading jobs and working with a team consisting of engineers and technicians.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to exercise sound judgement in technical matters, to routinely solve technical problems and to make recommendations;
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team;
- Excellent oral and written English communication skills;
- Ability to communicate clearly and accurately with technical and non-technical persons;
- Ability to deliver technical presentations to small and large audiences.
- Security Clearance Eligibility Required
- Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's "Standard on Security Screening" and the "Policy on Government Security."
Working Conditions:
- Working schedule: Five (5) days per week, seven and a half (7.5) hours per day for a thirty-seven and a half (37.5) hour work week.
This position is part of the CRPEG Union and is governed by the terms and conditions outlined in the CRPEG Collective Agreement. As a member of this bargaining unit, you'll benefit from clear expectations around hours of work, wages, vacation, and other conditions that support a fair and consistent working environment.
