Overview:

Pembina's Calgary Control Centre is actively hiring a Control Centre Operator to support 24/7 remote pipeline operations, playing a critical role in the safe, reliable, and efficient performance of our system.


In this high-impact role, you will monitor and control pipeline operations, lead response efforts during abnormal or emergency conditions, and serve as a key coordination point across field operations and facilities.


This is a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of Pembina's operations, contributing to a culture grounded in safety ("Zero by Choice"), teamwork, and operational excellence.


Pembina's Control Centre is part of the Transmission and Extraction assets and have been developed through the strategic acquisition of key natural gas, ethane and condensate transportation infrastructure assets, positioned in some of the most prolific gas producing regions in western Canada and the United States.


The successful candidate must reside within 50km of Calgary, AB, and be available for shift work in a 24/7 Control Centre operation.

Responsibilities may include but not limited to:
  • Champion Pembina's "Zero by Choice" safety culture and Life Saving Rules, embedding safety into every decision while maintaining strong operational discipline and situational awareness;
  • Operate and optimize pipeline systems remotely using advanced SCADA technologies, proactively monitoring performance and responding to evolving conditions in real time;
  • Ensure system integrity by closely monitoring pipeline conditions, including maintaining appropriate dewpoint margins to protect assets and product quality;
  • Detect, assess, and respond decisively to leaks or abnormal operating conditions, mitigating risk and safeguarding people, assets, and the environment;
  • Lead and execute emergency response protocols with confidence, ensuring timely, coordinated, and compliant actions across stakeholders;
  • Collaborate closely with Field Operations to manage alarms, troubleshoot equipment performance, and initiate callouts to support safe and efficient operations;
  • Maintain strict adherence to regulatory requirements, including DOT Operator Qualification (OQ) and Control Room Management (CRM) standards;
  • Serve as a key coordination hub, acting as the primary operational interface with Connecting Pipeline Operators and Common Stream Operators;
  • Respond effectively to gas quality events, ensuring the ongoing safety and integrity of facilities and pipeline systems;
  • Maintain accurate, detailed electronic logs (eLogs), ensuring clear documentation of operational events and seamless shift handovers;
  • Provide operational flexibility by supporting Utility Position rotations and contributing across team functions as needed;
  • Monitor and respond to AESO power dispatch requirements, aligning pipeline operations with broader energy system demands;
  • Contribute to an inclusive, respectful, and collaborative work environment that reflects Pembina's commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion; and
  • Demonstrate strong learning agility by quickly adapting to new technologies, regulatory changes, and evolving processes, continuously building operational expertise.
Qualifications:
  • 2+ years of experience in major pipeline operations, with hands-on exposure to complex systems and real-time decision-making;
  • Technical diploma in a gas industry-related field or a Journeyperson certification in instrumentation, power engineering, or mechanical trades;
  • Demonstrated ability to perform confidently in high-pressure, time-sensitive environments where safety and accuracy are critical;
  • Willingness and flexibility to work rotating shift schedules in a 24/7 operational environment;
  • Strong working knowledge of SCADA systems and pipeline hydraulics, with the ability to interpret and act on system data;
  • Solid understanding of pipeline facilities, including compression (e.g., gas turbines), natural gas processing, and thermodynamic behavior of natural gas;
  • Broad awareness of the North American natural gas industry, including market dynamics and operational context;
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey information and collaborate across teams and stakeholders; and
  • A collaborative team player with strong learning agility-able to quickly adapt, continuously build knowledge, and apply new insights in a dynamic environment.

    This position is considered "Safety Sensitive" and so will require Pre-Employment Drug & Alcohol Testing which includes testing for marijuana metabolites.ย 

The successful candidate must be legally able to work in the country of the position. The final candidate will be required to undergo Pre-Employment Background Checks including a Criminal Record Check.ย
