Job description

Join the growing team at Kundel Industries and use your technical skills to help create products that advance safety in the industrial and construction industries.
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Designer / Drafter to develop detailed mechanical designs, customer approval drawings, and production documentation for our standard and custom products. Working from our Vienna, Ohio facility, you will collaborate closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Automation, and Sales to turn project requirements into accurate, manufacturable designs.
This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled designer who enjoys solving practical manufacturing challenges, working independently, and seeing designs move from concept to production.
Responsibilities
  • Create and modify detailed 2D and 3D mechanical designs using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
  • Prepare production drawings for fabrication, machining, welding, and assembly.
  • Develop approval drawings for customer review and project coordination.
  • Review designs, production drawings, and bills of materials for accuracy before release.
  • Verify dimensions, materials, hardware, tolerances, and other manufacturing requirements.
  • Create and maintain bills of materials within PDM and ERP systems.
  • Maintain drawing revisions, models, project records, and engineering documentation.
  • Prepare production orders and approval drawings for automation end effectors, K-Trac systems, jib cranes, trench boxes, and other company products.
  • Incorporate approved customer and internal revisions into production documentation.
  • Work with Manufacturing to resolve drawing, dimensional, fit-up, fabrication, and assembly questions.
  • Support Automation and Sales with technical drawings and design information.
  • Review existing designs and recommend improvements related to manufacturability, standardization, and cost reduction.
  • Support prototype, research and development, and product-improvement projects.
  • Assist with maintaining company drafting and drawing standards.
  • Provide guidance and technical support to entry-level drafting personnel as needed.
  • Coordinate with Engineering when a project or design concern falls outside established standards or requires engineering approval.
Qualifications
  • Associate degree in Mechanical Design, Drafting, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
  • Prior mechanical drafting or design experience is required.
  • Strong working knowledge of SolidWorks.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD.
  • Ability to create and interpret detailed fabrication and assembly drawings.
  • Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, fits, dimensions, and manufacturing tolerances.
  • Experience designing welded and fabricated steel assemblies.
  • Understanding of common manufacturing processes, including laser or plasma cutting, machining, forming, press-brake operations, welding, and mechanical assembly.
  • Knowledge of structural steel shapes, plate, tubing, pipe, fasteners, hardware, and common mechanical materials.
  • Experience developing and maintaining accurate bills of materials.
  • Familiarity with PDM and ERP systems.
  • Ability to identify dimensional, manufacturing, and assembly conflicts before drawings are released.
  • Ability to interpret customer specifications, sketches, sales information, and engineering requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and document-control skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and changing priorities.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound technical judgment.
