Contractual Python Web Scraping information

What are Contractual Python Web Scraping jobs?

Contractual Python Web Scraping jobs involve hiring professionals on a temporary or project basis to extract data from websites using the Python programming language. These jobs typically require knowledge of Python libraries such as BeautifulSoup, Scrapy, or Selenium to automate the process of collecting and processing web data. Contractual roles are ideal for companies or individuals who need specific data sets or one-time scraping projects completed efficiently, without committing to a long-term hire.

What are some common challenges faced in a contractual Python web scraping role, and how can job seekers prepare for them?

In a contractual Python web scraping role, professionals often encounter challenges such as dealing with websites that implement anti-scraping measures, handling frequent changes in website structures, and managing large volumes of data efficiently. To prepare, job seekers should familiarize themselves with tools like Selenium, BeautifulSoup, and Scrapy, as well as techniques for rotating proxies and handling CAPTCHAs. Staying up to date with legal and ethical considerations regarding web scraping is also crucial. Proactive communication with clients to clarify project requirements and timelines can further help ensure successful project delivery.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Contractual Python Web Scraping specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Contractual Python Web Scraping specialist, you need strong proficiency in Python programming, web scraping libraries like BeautifulSoup and Scrapy, and a solid understanding of HTML, CSS, and HTTP protocols. Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git), API usage, and cloud platforms is often required, along with experience in handling data storage formats like JSON or CSV. Attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and effective communication are vital soft skills for interpreting client requirements and overcoming scraping challenges. These skills ensure accurate data extraction, reliable project delivery, and successful collaboration with clients or teams.

Job description

WisEngineering is seeking a highly technical Data Analyst / Data Architect to support an upcoming opportunity for Department of Defense programs at Picatinny Arsenal. This is not a traditional business analyst role; it requires a hands-on technical professional who can maintain localized AI infrastructure, engineer data pipelines, and build robust business intelligence dashboards. You will bridge the gap between system administration, data engineering, and applied AI. Your primary focus will be supporting locally hosted Large Language Models (LLMs), identifying and scraping web data to enrich these models, performing system administration duties for the AI environment, and building tracking metrics and reports for leadership.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
  • U.S. Citizenship REQUIRED due to DoD security clearance requirements
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, if required.
  • This is an onsite position 5 days per week at Picatinny Arsenal, Dover, NJ. Remote work is not permitted.
  • Local Candidates Preferred - Limited relocation assistance may be available

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
AI Administration & LLM Support
  • Local Infrastructure Management: Serve as the technical point of contact for locally hosted LLM environments utilizing Ollama and LM Studio, specifically supporting the Gemma model family. Perform troubleshooting and optimization for the local AI/LLM setup.
  • Data Identification & Web Scraping: Actively identify external and internal data gaps needed to train or ground the LLM. Write and maintain Python web-scraping scripts to safely harvest relevant web data.
  • Data Modeling and Analytics: Create and maintain data models to support analytics and reporting needs, ensuring scalability and performance optimization.
  • Data Documentation: Ability to write clear and comprehensive documentation for datasets, workflows, scripts, and dashboards to ensure reproducibility and knowledge sharing.
  • Security Compliance: Ensure all data ingestion, scraping, and LLM querying adhere to strict DoD guidelines.

Advanced Reporting & Prompt Engineering
  • Conceptualize and design high-impact use cases that turn raw, unstructured data (web pages, PDFs, free-text fields, etc) into actionable insights
  • Prompt Engineering: Develop, test, and refine complex prompts to extract deterministic summaries, classifications, and research insights from the LLM.
  • AI-Driven Research: Utilize the localized LLM environment to conduct deep-dive research and generate automated intelligence reports for program stakeholders.
  • Generate PDF/Word/HTML deliverables as needed using open source libraries.

Business Intelligence & Pipeline Engineering
  • Metrics & Dashboards: Design, build, and maintain high-impact performance metrics and interactive dashboards using Microsoft Power BI.
  • Data Tracking: Configure and maintain Microsoft Lists and Excel/SharePoint environments to track program data, ensuring seamless integration with Power BI.
  • Data Pipeline Automation: Write and maintain Python 3 scripts to pull, clean, and transform data from varied sources (Excel, CSV, JSON, Markdown, APIs, and scraped web content) into structured data models.

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
  • Core Languages & Tools: Proficient in Python (for data manipulation and web scraping) and Power BI (for advanced DAX data modeling and visualization).
  • AI/LLM Frameworks: Hands-on experience configuring and managing Ollama, LM Studio, and open-source models like Gemma.
  • Microsoft Ecosystem: Strong familiarity with Microsoft Lists, SharePoint, and Power Platform integration.
  • Data Wrangling: Proven ability to scrape web data and clean unstructured text/data formats (PDFs, APIs, free-text).
  • Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field, paired with 3+ years of relevant technical experience (or equivalent combined education and experience).
  • Military Experience: A plus.
