Job description

Duties and Responsibilities: Performs a variety of moderately complex and standard inorganic/organic chemical, physical. And microbiological analyses on samples collected from water, wastewater, processed and industrial pretreatment using EPA approved standard method procedures. Performs hazardous various organic extractions and analysis using gas chromatographs and corresponding instrument software.

Performs hazardous waste characterization for TCLP metals, flashpoint and TOX using cold vapor, fluorescence, atomic absorption spectrometers and halogen analyzers. Utilizes computer workstations and programs associated with numerous laboratory instrumentation. Prepares samples for instrumental analyses using various acid digestion, solvent and solid or liquid extraction calibrations.

Performs preventative maintenance and troubleshoots on laboratory instruments and equipment. Collects water samples from streams and lakes or raw, semi-processed, or processed water, industrial wastewater, or water from other sources to assess pollution problems. Records data and conducts statistical analyses on analytical data gathered.

Maintains records on analyses performed. Reviews data to ensure laboratory QA/QC criteria are met. May operate fixed or mobile monitoring or data collection station.

Provides technical guidance, oversight, and training to laboratory technicians.Qualifications and Skills: Must possess a high school diploma, or equivalent. Must have a bachelor's degree in Chemistry or equivalent such as supplemental college level courses in chemistry or related field. Must have a minimum of five (5) years of experience in laboratory bench in performing instrumental analyses

Must be knowledgeable of laboratory QA/QC requirements and chemical hygiene. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) programs.
