Job description

Overview

The NDT IUT Level III provides advanced technical expertise, leadership, and certification authority in ultrasonic testing for aerospace components and assemblies. The Level III is responsible for developing, qualifying, and approving ultrasonic techniques and procedures; training and certifying personnel; interpreting standards; and ensuring compliance with customer, regulatory, and aerospace requirements. This role covers all immersion ultrasonic systems.

Salary: $120,000 - $140,000/yr DOE 

Responsibilities

Develop, qualify, and approve NDT ultrasonic procedures, techniques, and work instructions in accordance with NAS-410, ASTM, Customer specification requirements, Nadcap, AS9100 and other contractual requirements. Serve as the subject matter expert for ultrasonic inspection methods (immersion and contact). Interpret codes, standards, and customer requirements related to ultrasonic testing. Approve or disapprove ultrasonic inspection results and technical interpretations. Provide technical direction and oversight for Level I and Level II NDT personnel. Evaluate and validate new ultrasonic techniques, equipment, and software for compliance and performance. Support as method Level III for internal, external audits and customer approvals activities. Perform contract review to ensure customer requirements can be met and are implemented into internal quality system. Audit and review calibration requirements and maintenance of certifications for various inspection equipment in the inspection area. Create and provide training plans for trainees, Level 1 and Level 2 to ensure all qualification requirements are met to achieve certification status. Conduct performance reviews for all certified inspectors. Interface with customers for any technical information and guidance. Develop and update exams as required to ensure compliance with industry and customer requirements. Certify and recertify all qualified personnel in accordance with company and customer requirements. Review and approve external technical documents received for applicability to inspections. Develop and lead corrective action reviews on audit/NCR findings. Maintain Level III certification and any others required certifications for this position. Maintain compliance with safety, health & environmental programs and regulations (e.g., OSHA, local authorities). Meet all quality, safety, and company policies and procedure requirements Perform other duties as assigned

Skills / Qualifications

Must have Level 3 ASNT Certification and/ or currently active NAS410 Level III certifications Equivalent technical experience may be considered. Minimum 5-8 years of aerospace NDT experience, including at least 2 years at Level III. Proven expertise in ultrasonic testing, primarily immersion ultrasonic testing. Experience with Nadcap NDT accreditation and OEM audits (e.g., Boeing, Rolls-Royce, GE, Pratt & Whitney). Familiarity with NAS 410, ASTM, SAE, and AS9100 ultrasonic standards. In-depth knowledge of different immersion ultrasonic equipment and technology

Work Environment:

Work is typically performed around heavy equipment and moving machinery, requiring strict adherence to all safety procedures and regulatory guidelines. Proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE)-including hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, dosimeters, and protective footwear-is mandatory.

This position requires the ability to:

Stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb for extended periods

Lift, carry, and move equipment or materials weighing up to 50 pounds

Work in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, and humidity

Maintain visual acuity for defect interpretation

Occasionally work irregular hours, including nights or weekends, to support project schedules

The Level III IUT must be capable of performing both technical oversight and hands-on support while maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality.
