Job description

Position Overview Under direct supervision, performs radiation protection and health physics engineering functions in support of DOE OSMS project operations. Provides technical support in the development and implementation of the Radiation Protection Program by evaluating, monitoring, and interpreting radiation and contamination levels. Assists with the development and delivery of radiological training programs, dose assessments, and the implementation of preventive measures to minimize exposure.

Ensures site operations are conducted in compliance with contractual, statutory, and regulatory requirements, DOE Orders, and approved procedures. The specific work assignment may include duties or activities to support the organization in one or more of the following functional areas, in addition to other duties as assigned: Functional: Provides assigned technical, administrative or functional support to the management team Performs assigned tasks in accordance with detailed instructions and established policies and procedures Analyze data, within a limited scope, and compare routine readings with pre-determined standards Performs a variety of tasks general/routine in complexity Other job related duties as assigned Competencies: Maintains knowledge of and demonstrates ability to perform work safely in accordance with all approved safety policies, procedures and applicable regulations and performs assigned duties in a safe manner Actively participates in Safety Work Groups Demonstrates knowledge of health physics principles and DOE radiation protection requirements. Applies technical expertise to radiological measurements, evaluations, and dose assessments.

Communicates effectively with supervisors, technical staff, and stakeholders. Supports training and knowledge transfer through preparation and delivery of radiological training. Maintains attention to detail in data collection, analysis, and reporting.

Applies math and science skills to radiation protection problems and solutions. Contributes to continuous improvement of safety procedures and radiological controls.
