Job description
Founded in 2019, SB Energy is a SoftBank Group company headquartered in Redwood City, California. In 2026, SoftBank Group and OpenAI announced a $1 billion investment to support SB Energy as their leading development and execution partner for data center campuses, while Ares Infrastructure continues its long-standing support of the company's growth. SB Energy develops, builds, owns, and operates some of the largest and most technically advanced energy and data center infrastructure projects in the United States. Since its founding, the company has rapidly grown into a top-tier integrated platform with more than 3 gigawatts (GW) in operation and a multi-GW pipeline of energy and data center infrastructure nationwide.
SB Energy also leverages a strong culture of innovation to identify and integrate new technologies into its projects, including its AI-based digital platform, delivering energy infrastructure that is local, reliable, and matched to load. We are building the energy and infrastructure future-today.
Come join us in accelerating the energy and infrastructure transition!
Basic Function
SB Energy seeks an experienced Insurance and Risk Management professional to support the continued growth of our digital infrastructure and energy businesses. Reporting to the Head of Insurance, this role will play a critical part in the management and optimization of the company's corporate insurance programs, underwriting processes, and contractual risk transfer strategies.
The successful candidate will partner closely with internal stakeholders across Development, Engineering, Construction, Operations, Finance, Legal, and Procurement, as well as external brokers, insurers, and consultants. This individual will be responsible for supporting insurance placements, developing underwriting submissions, managing exposure data, and enhancing the company's risk management capabilities across both operating, construction, and development projects.
Experience supporting data centers, manufacturing, industrial facilities, commercial real estate, infrastructure, and/or energy assets is strongly preferred.
Responsibilities
Insurance Program Management
- Support the placement, renewal, and ongoing management of corporate insurance programs, including Property, General Liability, Excess, Auto, Workers' Compensation, Cyber, Management Liability, Builders Risk, and OCIP/CCIP programs.
- Review policy language, endorsements, exclusions, deductibles, and coverage structures to ensure alignment with business needs.
- Prepare insurance summaries and provide guidance to internal stakeholders regarding coverage requirements and risk management strategies.
Underwriting & Exposure Management
- Lead the collection, validation, and organization of underwriting information for insurance placements and renewals.
- Develop and maintain Total Insurable Value (TIV) schedules across operating assets, construction projects, and emerging business platforms.
- Coordinate with Engineering, Construction, Development, Operations, and Finance teams to validate asset valuations, replacement cost estimates, project values, and business interruption assumptions.
- Coordinate insurer engineering reviews, site visits, loss control recommendations, and underwriting diligence efforts.
- Assist with catastrophe modeling inputs, exposure analyses, and risk assessments.
- Prepare underwriting submissions and respond to broker and insurer information requests.
Contractual Risk Transfer
- Review and suggest insurance provisions within EPC, construction, equipment supply, operations and maintenance, lease, development, and service agreements.
- Partner with Legal and Procurement teams to ensure contractual insurance requirements align with company standards and available market coverage.
- Evaluate contractor and vendor insurance requirements, including limits, additional insured provisions, waivers of subrogation, primary and non-contributory language, and other contractual obligations.
- Support contractor insurance compliance processes and resolution of coverage deficiencies.
Claims & Risk Operations
- Support claims management activities, including claim intake, documentation, and coordination with brokers, insurers, and third-party administrators.
- Maintain insurance-related reporting and analytics, including premiums, limits, deductibles, claims history, and project insurance costs.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in corporate risk management, insurance brokerage, underwriting, insurance consulting, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of commercial and/or energy property insurance
- Experience supporting large-scale infrastructure, industrial, construction, commercial real estate, energy, or manufacturing operations.
- Experience developing underwriting submissions and interacting directly with brokers and insurers.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and project management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively across diverse stakeholder groups.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred
- Experience supporting data centers, energy, manufacturing, commercial real estate, or industrial operations.
- Experience with renewable energy projects, battery energy storage systems, transmission infrastructure, or power generation assets.
- Familiarity with catastrophe modeling, probable maximum loss (PML) studies, and insurer engineering reviews.
Location: Boston, MA, San Francisco Bay Area, San Diego, CA, or Denver, CO. Hybrid.
