Job description

What You'll Be Doing
Job Scope: The Project Engineer is a key resource supporting capital projects, facility improvements, and operational initiatives within a food-grade powder blending facility. This role coordinates engineering activities and manages projects from concept through startup to improve safety, product quality, reliability, and production efficiency.
Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
    • Manage capital projects, facility improvements, and process optimization initiatives from concept through startup and closeout.
    • Develop project scopes, schedules, budgets, and resource plans to ensure successful project execution.
    • Coordinate with Operations, Quality, Maintenance, EHS, and external contractors to achieve project objectives.
    • Oversee equipment installations, process modifications, and facility upgrades while minimizing disruptions to production.
    • Monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement corrective actions to maintain schedule and budget targets.
    • Prepare and review engineering drawings, specifications, equipment layouts, and technical documentation.
    • Support procurement activities, including equipment selection, vendor coordination, and contractor management.
    • Ensure projects comply with food safety requirements, regulatory standards, company policies, and engineering best practices.
    • Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, reliability, quality, and production efficiency.
    • Assist with commissioning, startup, and validation activities for new equipment and system modifications.
    • Analyze operational data and provide technical recommendations to improve equipment performance and process reliability.
    • Promote a strong safety culture and support environmental, health, and safety initiatives throughout all phases of project execution.
Ideal Background
Education: Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Engineering from an accredited university is required.
Registration: Professional Engineering and/or Project Management Professional (PMP) registration is highly preferred.
Experience: This position requires 10+ years of relevant experience in engineering and project management with a strong mechanical background.
Required Knowledge Skills, and Abilities:
    • Manage capital projects and facility improvements from concept development through design, procurement, installation, startup, and project closeout.
    • Develop project scopes, cost estimates, schedules, budgets, and justification packages for capital and continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Coordinate with Operations, Quality, Maintenance, EHS, contractors, and vendors to ensure projects are executed safely, efficiently, and with minimal disruption to production.
    • Lead equipment installation and upgrade projects involving blending systems, conveying equipment, packaging lines, dust collection systems, utilities, and process automation.
    • Monitor project progress, track budgets and schedules, identify project risks, and implement corrective actions to ensure project objectives are achieved.
    • Conduct vendor walkthroughs, develop bid packages, evaluate proposals, and manage contractor and supplier relationships throughout project execution.
    • Support equipment selection and procurement activities by evaluating technical specifications, performance requirements, and life-cycle costs.
    • Oversee contractor activities in the field, including safety compliance, work permitting, construction coordination, and quality assurance.
    • Lead commissioning, startup, and turnover activities to ensure new equipment and systems meet performance, reliability, and operational requirements.
    • Collaborate with Operations and Maintenance to identify and implement projects that improve safety, product quality, equipment reliability, and production efficiency.
    • Track project performance and post-implementation results to verify expected benefits and identify additional improvement opportunities.
    • Prepare and maintain engineering documentation, project reports, equipment specifications, layouts, and project records.
    • Support facility planning efforts, including capacity expansion, infrastructure upgrades, and long-term asset improvement strategies.
    • Participate in troubleshooting efforts and provide engineering support for equipment, process, and reliability issues as needed.
    • Ensure all projects comply with food safety requirements, regulatory standards, environmental requirements, and company policies.
