Job description

The City of Boise Department of Aviation is seeking an Airport Director to serve as the chief executive responsible for the leadership, management, and long-term success of Boise Airport (BOI). Reporting to the Deputy Chief of Staff – Public Safety & Infrastructure, this executive role provides strategic direction for all aspects of airport operations, financial stewardship, capital development, commercial growth, and organizational performance. The Airport Director ensures the airport operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all applicable regulations while advancing Boise’s strategic vision for regional connectivity and economic development. As the airport’s principal executive and liaison to the Boise Airport Commission, the Director fosters strong partnerships with airlines, tenants, government agencies, business leaders, and the community.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Lead the overall management, operation, and strategic direction of Boise Airport.
  • Direct airport operations while ensuring financial sustainability and regulatory compliance.
  • Negotiate airline agreements, commercial leases, landing fees, and other strategic business partnerships.
  • Advance air service development and recruit airlines and aviation-related businesses.
  • Oversee airport master planning, capital improvement programs, and long-range development initiatives.
  • Manage airport property, land acquisition, and development programs in coordination with community planning efforts.
  • Develop and administer operating and capital budgets while overseeing grants and financial resources.
  • Serve as Executive Secretary to the Boise Airport Commission and provide strategic recommendations to City leadership.
  • Represent the airport with governmental agencies, industry organizations, and community stakeholders to strengthen regional partnerships.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Airport Management, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field; master’s degree preferred.
  • Twenty years of progressively responsible executive leadership experience, including management of a small or medium hub commercial airport; additional senior airport leadership experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in airport operations, financial management, commercial development, master planning, and capital improvement programs.
  • Proven success leading complex negotiations, stakeholder engagement, and organizational strategy within a public-sector aviation environment.
  • Accredited Airport Executive (A.A.E.) designation or comparable professional credential preferred.
Salary & Benefits

The successful candidate will be offered a very competitive salary with an outstanding benefits package. The compensation range is $305,000 - $340,000. A starting salary near the top of the range is possible for the exceptional candidate reflecting the candidate’s work experience and track record of career success.
