JOB SUMMARY
The Quality Control Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the Quality Control operations of pre-stressed concrete production. This includes supervising quality control inspectors, ensuring compliance with project specifications, industry standards & customer requirements and coordinating testing and inspection of materials and finished products. The role is vital to maintaining product quality, structural integrity, and safety compliance. The Quality Control Supervisor reports to the Quality Control Manager.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Supervise and lead the quality control team across all shifts
• Ensure compliance with all project specifications, industry standards & internal quality procedures
• Monitor production of pre-stressed concrete elements, including form setup, reinforcing, stressing, casting, curing and finishing processes
• Verify correct stressing procedures and monitor tensioning of strands/cables for compliance
• Review and maintain accurate records for pre-pour and post-pour inspections
• Ensure adherence to approved mix designs, stressing sequences, curing times, and release strengths.
• Oversee sampling and testing of raw materials (aggregates, cement, admixtures, etc.)
• Strong understanding of pre-stressing techniques, tensioning equipment, and strand handling
• Knowledge of concrete mix design, curing methods, and quality standards
• Familiarity with shop drawings, structural details, and inspection checklists
• Investigate non-conformities and coordinate corrective/preventive actions
• Train and mentor QC inspectors and production staff on quality standards and procedures
• Participate in internal and external audits (PCI, client, third-party)
• Maintain and improve the plant's quality management system
• Provide regular reports and documentation to management
• Other duties as assigned
SKILLS & ABILITIES
• High school diploma or equivalent
• 5+ years of experience in precast concrete Quality Control; 2+ years in pre-stressed concrete operations
• Demonstrated experience as a QC Supervisor or Manager
• Strong knowledge of concrete testing methods and standards
• Excellent attention to detail & analytical skills
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills
• Must be self-motivated and able to work independently or with a team; willingness to be flexible as needed
• Valid DL with clear driving record
• Consistent, reliable and punctual attendance
• Ability to prioritize tasks and work in a safe manner
• PCI Level II / NPCA & ACI certification preferred
• Familiarity with DOT pre-stress products is a plus
• Experience with pre-stressed concrete products (beams, box beams, columns, panels, etc.)
FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS
This position requires constant (70-100%) standing, lifting up to 50lbs, pushing, pulling, bending, twisting, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, feeling, use hands to finger, hearing (listening) and observing (vision), hand/eye coordination and walking. Requires frequent (40-69%) climbing, balancing, stooping, crouching and occasional (0-39%) sitting. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, peripheral vision and ability to adjust and focus. This position is subject to onsite hazards including but not limited to moving industrial equipment, hazardous energies (LOTO), climbing ladders, working at heights, working on uneven or unimproved surfaces and areas of high noise levels, may operate hand and power tools (electric, gas & pneumatic) of all types. Must be able to walk on uneven surfaces, muddy conditions, loose rock, loose/soft sand, etc. May be required to work in confined spaces. Will be exposed to adverse weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.). Candidate must be able to be medically qualified by a NON-DOT or other job specific physical.
