Water Systems Engineer

Location: Windsor, ON

Reporting to the Director Water Engineering and in collaboration with the Senior Engineer, Engineering and Operational Managers, the successful candidate is responsible for supporting and executing a wide variety of design projects involving water pumping stations, water reservoirs, water treatment plant and water distribution; including preparation of drawings, specifications and ensuring designs comply with regulatory and safety standards, preparation of contract documents, estimates, and the selection and procurement of equipment. The successful candidate supports the creation, monitoring and measurement of annual sustainment and enhancement projects; updates and maintains the asset management system, including the data, analysis and reporting for the water production and distribution system assets and analyses data to continue to improve the systems' performance; investigates and implements software and engineering tools for the department. The Water Systems Engineer will assist in overseeing, inspecting, and managing third party contractors including preparation of payment certificates, site visits, attending meetings and ensuring contractors adhere to project specifications and timelines.

The successful applicant must possess the following qualifications:

  • University degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or related discipline with Professional Engineering designation or working toward obtaining the designation.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of similar or related experience.
  • Knowledge of construction and design of water treatment and distribution systems as well as related materials and equipment.
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and regulations, Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) design guidelines, Windsor Utility Commission (WUC) standards and specs, construction practices and the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) and regulations.
  • Proficient in computer systems and software implementation and the ability to create tools in Microsoft Excel and Access.
  • Good working knowledge of computer concepts (AutoCAD, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Project, SAP, GIS mapping).
  • Knowledge of computer systems, networks, SCADA systems, and electrical design for remote data collection considered an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal & written).
  • Ability to multi-task. Strong project management skills and organizational ability, planning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working in a unionized environment considered asset.
  • Valid Class 'G' Driver's License.

Salary Range for Qualified Candidates: $111,236 - $123,595
