Location: New York, NY (Hybrid / On-site options available near JFK/NYC metro area)
Job Type: Full-Time

Compensation: Competitive Base Salary + Uncapped Commission Structure + Benefits

Position Overview

We are seeking a high-performing, driven Business Development Manager (BDM) specializing in Air Freight Forwarding and Third-Party Logistics (3PL) to drive revenue growth in the New York metropolitan market. The ideal candidate possesses a proven track record of securing mid-to-large market shippers, leveraging a deep understanding of international air freight networks, domestic gateways, and supply chain fulfillment solutions. You will be responsible for hunting new business, building strategic carrier relationships, and designing custom multi-modal logistics solutions for global clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive Sales Growth: Actively prospect, cold-call, and qualify leads to build a robust pipeline of air freight and 3PL warehousing opportunities in the Northeast region.
  • Solution Selling: Design and pitch comprehensive supply chain solutions, integrating international air import/export logistics, customs clearance, and domestic 3PL fulfillment services.
  • Manage RFPs & Quoting: Lead RFP responses, negotiate spot rates and contract pricing with clients, and collaborate with internal pricing teams to maximize gross profit margins.
  • Client Retention: Onboard new accounts seamlessly and conduct regular business reviews to identify cross-selling opportunities across ocean, ground, and air modes.
  • Market Intelligence: Monitor global air cargo capacity, airline schedules, and local JFK/EWR gateway trends to advise clients strategically on market volatility.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum 3–5 years of successful outside sales or business development experience within a Freight Forwarding or 3PL environment.
  • Air Freight Expertise: Deep technical knowledge of international air cargo operations, TSA regulations, IATA standards, Incoterms, and customs brokerage workflows.
  • Book of Business: A transferable portfolio of active shipping clients or a strong local network of logistics decision-makers in the New York/New Jersey area is highly preferred.
  • Tech Savvy: Proficient with logistics management software (e.g., CargoWise) and standard CRM tools (e.g., Salesforce).
  • Communication: Exceptional negotiation, presentation, and closing skills, with the ability to confidently present to C-suite executives.
