Contract Sports Software Engineer information

What is a contract sports software engineer?

Contract Sports Software Engineers are professionals who design, develop, and maintain software solutions specifically for the sports industry, working on a temporary or project-based contract. They may be responsible for building applications related to sports analytics, live scoring, player management, or fan engagement platforms. As contractors, they typically work with sports teams, leagues, or technology companies to deliver specialized software solutions without being permanent employees. Their work often involves collaborating with stakeholders to meet the unique demands of the sports domain, ensuring scalability, reliability, and real-time performance.

What are some common challenges faced by contract sports software engineers when integrating with third-party data providers?

Contract sports software engineers often encounter challenges when integrating with third-party data providers, such as inconsistent data formats, frequent API updates, and varying data refresh rates. These issues require adaptability, strong troubleshooting skills, and proactive communication with both the client and the data provider. Additionally, as a contractor, you may need to quickly familiarize yourself with the client's existing codebase and ensure that your integrations meet strict performance and reliability standards expected in sports applications.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a contract sports software engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Contract Sports Software Engineer, you need strong proficiency in programming languages (such as Java, C++, or Python), experience with sports analytics, and a relevant degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with sports data APIs, cloud platforms, version control systems like Git, and possibly certifications in agile methodologies are commonly required. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and adaptability help you integrate quickly with new teams and understand client needs. These skills are crucial for delivering reliable, high-performance sports software solutions within tight project deadlines.

Job description

Sr/Staff Software Engineer (Agent Platform)

Location: US

Level: Senior Individual Contributor

Team: Engineering

About Terzo

Terzo builds an AI-native enterprise data platform designed to power the commercial and financial operating system of modern companies. The platform transforms complex, unstructured enterprise data into structured, actionable intelligence used directly in operational and financial decision-making. Terzo sits at the intersection of data platforms, AI systems, and enterprise software, focusing on real production use cases rather than demos or point solutions.

 The Opportunity

Terzo is building the AI platform layer that sits between structured enterprise intelligence and the people who act on it. The Financial Intelligence Graph gives our customers visibility into contracts, vendors, spend, obligations, and risk. The Agent Platform is how that intelligence becomes autonomous by powering AI agents, workflows, recommendations, and search experiences that move enterprise teams from insight to action without waiting on a human in the loop.

As a Sr/Staff Engineer on the Agent Platform team, you will design and build the core infrastructure that makes this possible. You will own the platform APIs, orchestration layers, and runtime systems that power Terzo's AI agents, NirvanAI search, and the marketplace where customers deploy autonomous intelligence against their most critical commercial data. The services you build will be the substrate every AI-powered experience at Terzo runs on.

You might thrive in this role if you have
  • 5+ years building backend systems or developer platforms in distributed, cloud-native environments
  • Experience building platforms where AI capabilities are first-class primitives, not bolted-on features
  • Strong API design instincts for services processing highly sensitive enterprise data
  • Solid understanding of relational and non-relational data stores, data modeling, and performance optimization
  • Strong backend development especially Python
  • Comfortable making architectural decisions with incomplete information
  • Strong product intuition where you understand why something is being built, not just how
  • High ownership mentality where you treat system reliability and customer outcomes as your responsibility
You could be an especially great fit if you have
  • Experience building agent orchestration systems, tool-use runtimes, or autonomous reasoning infrastructure in production
  • Prior work on workflow engines, state machines, or event-driven systems coordinating long-running, multi-step processes
  • Background in B2B SaaS, enterprise data platforms, or financial systems where correctness and auditability are non-negotiable
  • Exposure to graph databases, knowledge graph systems, or commercial ontology modeling
  • Familiarity with streaming technologies (Kafka, Azure Service Bus) or distributed compute frameworks (Ray)
  • Prior work at a high-growth startup where you built platform foundations other teams shipped on top of
 Why Join Terzo
  • Opportunity to build and own a foundational enterprise data platform
  • High-impact role with real influence on architecture and technical direction
  • Complex problems involving data, AI, scale, and enterprise customers
  • Small, senior team with strong ownership and minimal bureaucracy
  • Clear runway for technical and leadership growth as the platform scales
 Benefits & Perks
  • Competitive salary
  • Annual performance bonus
  • Employee stock option plan
  • 100% paid medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • 401(k) with employer contribution
  • Generous vacation and sick leave
  • Flexible work arrangements
  • High-quality equipment for home and office
  • Strong culture of collaboration, mentorship, and continuous improvement
