Job description

Job Duties

  • Monitoring time clocks prior to start of shift.
  • Greeting line workers at the start of each shift, making sure that employees are promptly at assigned workstations.
  • Ensuring that employees have tasks to complete and assign necessary additional tasks to employees who have finished previously assigned work.
  • Ensuring regularly throughout the shift that all employees have necessary supplies, tools, materials, etc. to maintain production. Obtain necessary items as needed to reduce/avoid any delay in production.
  • Monitoring employeesโ€™ quality and quantity of production continuously throughout the day.
  • Training employees as needed for them to perform assigned duties.
  • Checking voicemail throughout day and inform any line workers of messages.
  • Keeping track of employeesโ€™ attendance and tardy records.
  • Monitoring employee behavior and discipline problems and recommending counselings or warnings to the Production Manager.
  • Participating in counseling or discipline meetings with the employee and Production Manager.
  • Repairing, as able, any machine malfunction and report malfunction to the Production Manager or General Manager.
  • Verifying dates on SMO sheets . Locate necessary tickets on focus orders that are designated as Rush and/or SMOโ€™s.
  • Maintaining expert knowledge of the equipment used in their production area.
  • Maintaining knowledge of products, materials, machines, gauges, tools, etc. necessary for proper fit of products.
  • Maintaining knowledge of material patterns, heat controls, pressure, molds, heat control, wetting, and timing, if applicable.
  • Changing and setting plates, dies, and gauges.
  • Trim dies after molding using cutting machine.
  • Maintaining knowledge of applying materials to products such as glue, Velcro, snaps, fasteners, etc.
  • Using sewing machines to generate proper stitching if required.
  • Using thread burners and nippers for threads for proper product manufacture, making sure to protect product from burns.
  • Operating a sanding machine safely, and using knowledge of sanding machine and types of sandpaper to ensure upkeep of machine.
  • Safely operate various machines as needed.
  • Using knowledge of properties of leather and other materials to ensure production of quality products throughout all phases of manufacturing.
  • Inspecting finished products for quality and make certain that products are given to appropriate receivers, such as shipping, other lines, etc.
  • Maintaining knowledge of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge/Skills/Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent required, some college preferred.
  • 2-3 years of general manufacturing experience required.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities.
  • Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to follow multiple directions, involving sequential tasks or otherwise, and to effectively prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to effectively delegate responsibility and to follow up on delegation with team members.
  • Ability to take the initiative and make prompt, sound decisions.
  • Ability to interface effectively and cooperatively with multiple departments.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. on a regular basis and 60 lbs. occasionally.
  • Ability to pick, pinch, hold, turn, grip, grasp, feel and work with both hands, arms or shoulders on a daily basis.
  • Use of fingers, hands, arms, legs and feet to accomplish tasks.
  • Able to lift, push, pull, sit, walk, and stand as needed;
  • Ability to carry, lift, push, pull, step, climb, reach with hands and arms; bend, stoop and kneel.
  • Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time on a regular basis.
  • Ability to move quickly around in all areas of the facility.
  • High energy level appropriate to fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work with glues, oils, and cleaners (and possibly other chemical substances).
  • Adequate vision to accomplish tasks listed in this job description, including ability to identify and distinguish colors and high level of detail.
  • Adequate hearing to understand directions.

Employees within the Production Team Leader position will generally perform the tasks outlined in this job description. However, in order for the company to meet its obligations to its customers and adhere to its values, purpose and vision, all employees in a Production Team Leader position must be capable of performing any of the job duties within the Production Technician I, II, III, IV, V or VI positions.
