Overview

Heavy Truck Driver (2026-25509):

Bowhead is actively seeking a full-time Truck Driver with a CLASS A CDL and Passenger Endorsement to support the Logistics Readiness Center (LRC) at Fort Jackson, SC. The role involves safely transporting passengers over designated routes, both locally and over longer distances.

This position requires a Class A CDL with a Passenger Endorsement and includes working various shifts (1st, 2nd, and 3rd) as well as weekends. Some personnel may be required to flex between shifts based on operational needs.

Responsibilities

Straight truck, over 4 tons, usually 10 wheels.

  • The Heavy Truck Driver operates buses and troop carriers capable of transporting up to 80 passengers to safely transport personnel throughout the installation.

  • Operates buses and troop carriers on scheduled and unscheduled routes, transporting personnel safely and efficiently.

  • Observes established schedules, prescribed routes, and posted speed limits.

  •  Controls and supervises the loading and unloading of passengers, ensuring maximum capacity limitations are observed and only authorized personnel are transported.

  • Ensures passengers are transported safely and in accordance with all traffic laws and installation regulations.

  • Completes vehicle utilization records, including miles operated, hours operated, POL added, and the number of passengers transported.

  • Completes driver's accident and incident reports when required.

  • Reports any passenger misconduct, unsafe behavior, or safety concerns to supervision.

  • Performs operator-level preventive maintenance, daily inspections, and minor servicing in accordance with established regulations and company policy.

  • Determines the safest and most practical routes while observing speed limits and traffic regulations.

  • Maintains required logs, inspection forms, and service documentation.

  • Maintains assigned vehicles in a clean and serviceable condition, both interior and exterior, at all times.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor. 

Qualifications
  • Must possess a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger endorsements and other endorsement that will allow the operation of buses exceeding 26,000 pounds (gross vehicle weight) and the operation of liquid transporters with a capacity of 1,000 gallons or more.
  • High school Diploma or GED requiredAt least two years of experience driving with a CDL preferred
  • A familiarity with the military is preferred but not required
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts
  • Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team.
  • If the candidate does not currently possess a CDL Class A with the M restriction removed, the candidate must possess a valid CDL permit prior to the start date.
  • The employee will be allowed up to three (3) attempts or a maximum of sixty (60) calendar days from the start date, whichever occurs first, to obtain a CDL Class A with the M restriction removed.
  • Failure to meet or maintain this licensing requirement may result in disqualification from Heavy Truck Driver duties, reassignment if a qualified position is available, or separation from the contract in accordance with company policy and applicable law.

Physical Demands:

  • Frequently lifts items weighing up to 30 pounds independently and occasionally lifts up to 65 pounds with assistance
  • Must be able to stand, walk, and sit for prolonged amounts of time
  • Uses arms, hands, and fingers for pulling and positioning materials, sewing, and using tools such as shears

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIRED: Must be able to obtain a security clearance at the Public Trust Level (NACI). Due to the location of this work, US Citizenship is required. Bowhead reserves the right to change this requirement if necessitated by business needs or contractual obligations.
