Job description

Type: Contract to hire
Location: Auburn Hills, MI
Shift: 1st shift
Compensation: Based on skill & experience
Paint & Sealant Controls Engineer - Build the Digital Twin, Break the Limits
Step into a role where you bring automation systems to life before they ever hit the factory floor. As a Paint & Sealant Controls Engineer, you'll own the creation of Digital Twins for robotic paint and sealer cells-debugging PLCs, validating GUIs, and making complex automation behave exactly as it should.
This is hands?on engineering for people who love solving problems, building systems, and seeing their work run in the real world.
What You'll Do
  • Design and implement controls software across PLC, HMI, and GUI platforms.
  • Build full virtual commissioning models-import 3D models, apply kinematics, and emulate system behavior.
  • Program and debug PLCs, ensuring smooth integration with robotic and automation systems.
  • Collaborate with controls engineers, and occasionally train or mentor associates.
  • Support system integration, both on the shop floor and at customer sites.
  • Travel for onsite debugging, including occasional international trips.
  • Lead training sessions and demos to showcase system capabilities.

What You Bring
  • Strong PLC setup/programming skills (Allen?Bradley, Siemens, Omron, Mitsubishi all welcome).
  • Experience with virtual commissioning tools like Process Simulate or Emulate3D.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex electrical and pneumatic systems.
  • Clear communication skills and a customer?focused mindset.
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical/computer engineering or equivalent hands?on experience.
  • At least one year of PLC or PC?based software programming.
  • Background in automation, robotics, or systems engineering.

Work Environment
  • Fast?paced industrial settings, including automotive plants.
  • Occasional overtime and 7?day schedules during critical deadlines.
  • Significant walking/standing during onsite work.
  • Overnight travel as needed.

Why This Role Rocks
You're not just writing code - you're building entire automated worlds in a virtual environment and proving they work before anyone ever hits the power switch. If you love robotics, simulation, and solving real?world engineering puzzles, this is the kind of job that keeps you hooked.
