Shift: Standard

Pay Rate: $45.00 hourly on W2

Job Description

  • The Engineer 1 position requires 0-5 years of related experience and an accredited bachelorโ€™s degree.
  • Responsible for applying engineering processes, design criteria, and software applications to design and construct power related systems.
  • Supports estimate preparation, develops design options, and prepares construction specifications.
  • Provide guidance, oversight, and quality assurance reviews for approved contractors as they develop design solutions, cost estimates, and construction packages.
  • Job responsibilities include creating a safe work environment by putting safety first, understand the process used for planning, design, operation, construction, and maintenance, understanding the functions and activities of various internal departments involved in design, construction, and maintenance, understanding design practices and work processes, using all software applications used in design, understanding industry and Southern Company design standards, supporting design standard and criteria development for the system, supporting construction and maintenance teams during day-to-day operations, estimating material for projects, transmitting construction packages and supporting specifications.
  • Skillsets and expertise required for this position include introductory engineering knowledge, basic problem-solving skills, limited discretion making independent decisions based on procedure and review with supervisor, basic discipline software knowledge, strong work ethic, positive attitude, and the ability to build effective relationships with plant staff, design engineering staff and/or vendors.
  • Education and Experience: Required: Bachelorโ€™s degree in engineering with ABET Accreditation Preferred: Civil, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering. Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification.
  • Work Experience: Required: None Preferred: Prior internship or co-op experience in an engineering field.
  • Specific Skills & Knowledge Required: Ability to read and interpret engineering plans - intermediate to advanced proficiency, MS Office - intermediate proficiency, Ability to communicate to all levels of the organization. Preferred: CAD/GIS - basic proficiency, Hydraulic analysis experience, Project Management.
