Theย Forest Stewards Guildย is hiring a full-timeย Forestryย and Fuelsย Coordinator to supportย forest contractors and implement forest resilience projects on private and federal lands. This role builds uponย theย 2-3-2 Cohesive Strategy Partnershipย and theย Rio Chama Collaborative Forestย Landscapeย Restoration Programย (CFLRP) to promoteย forestry projects for small acreage and underserved landowners and buildย localย contractorย capacity.ย

The successful candidate will use their experience in projectย coordination, science communication, and ecological forestry to work with Guild staff, partners, and landowners to evaluate project needs, implementย resilientย forestry projects, conduct educational outreach, andย facilitateย contractor trainings, among other activities as project needs areย identified. Theย Forestryย and Fuelsย Coordinator will help fulfill the Guild's mission of ecological forestry in the Southwest United Statesย through landowner outreach,ย field surveys and project design, forest prescription and plan writing, and implementation oversight. Candidates should have strong projectย coordinationย skills, communication abilities, budget tracking experience, knowledge of dry fire-adapted forests,ย forestry training,ย and strategic thinking capabilities.ย

Position Descriptionย
The successful candidate will have aย certificate orย degree in forestry, ecology, natural resource management,ย orย threeย years equivalent experience of professional work mapping and marking timberย orย fuelsย units for treatment. This individual will have excellent organizational, communication, and written skills, the ability to work outdoors in remote locations, and a desire to support ecological forestryย and forest dependent communitiesย in the Southwest. The Guild has been expanding in the Southwest, and the ideal candidate willย possessย the desire and leadership skills to sustain and strengthen the Guild's regional presence and impact.ย Previousย experience in field forestry managementย and working collaboratively with diverse partnersย in the Southwest, coupled with projectย coordinationย experience, is highly desirable.The SWย Forestryย and Fuelsย Coordinatorย will work closely withย directorsย and staffย based out ofย the Santa Fe, NMย office.ย ย
The successful individual will:ย
Build trust, improve forest health, and increase landowner participation inย resilientย forestry practicesย throughย one-on-one conversations, deep listening, and follow through.ย
Work with New Mexico State Forestry Division, Colorado State Forest Service, and US Forest Service to find willing landowners as well as look for opportunities to develop opportunities to work across boundaries.ย ย
Support office-based project management work such as cost estimating, budgeting, issuing Requests for Proposals, preparing agreements, reporting, and general correspondence with partners.ย
Facilitate meetings, trainings,ย field tours,ย andย otherย opportunities to support local contractorย capacityย inย line with existing partnerships.ย
Coordinateย withย New Mexico State Forestry Division,ย Colorado State Forest Service,ย Northern New Mexico College, America's Job Center, New Mexico Workforce Solutions, and the Santa Fe, Carson, Rio Grande, and San Juan National Forests, and other interested partners.ย
Perform grant writing, administration, and reporting to a variety of different funders, including private foundations and government grants.ย ย

Locationย
This position is based at the Forest Stewards Guild's office in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Other locations in northern NM and southern CO (i.e., Chama, Taos,ย Alamosa,ย Pagosa, etc.) will be considered. A hybrid schedule isย acceptable,ย and remote work is evaluated on a case-by-case basis. This position requires travel throughout northern New Mexico and southern Colorado.ย The expectation is that travel to Santa Fe will beย requiredย for meetings and field coordination.ย Some overnight travel isย requiredย whenย distances make it necessary. All travel costs from the Guild office in Santa Fe are covered, including the use of a Guild vehicle.ย ย
