Job description

ASRC Federal Advanced Research supports the FAA NAS SLES (Second Level Engineering Services) contract.  Join our growing team as an Electronics/Electrical Engineer to support the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) National Radio Communications System VHF/FM radio network. The primary function of the NRCS VHF/FM radio network is to provide the FAA with emergency communications in response to local, regional and national emergencies when normal communications are interrupted and ensures FAA management have command and control communications during times of crisis.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical guidance in the procurement of new equipment and services.
  • Research and procure network communication systems to enhance and upgrade the existing systems or networks.
  • Provide engineering review of hardware communication equipment design data
  • Provide technical guidance in the procurement of new equipment and services.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation.  This documentation shall describe hardware functions, maintenance requirements, and maintenance techniques.
  • Provide site support and travel to VHF/FM locations to perform upgrades or site restoration activities.
  • Develop and train technicians for all new communication equipment.
  • Ensure that hardware changes are performed in a thorough and complete manner to enhance future maintainability.
  • Develop and execute detailed plans, schedules, and related activities to procure, validate, update documentation and install new systems. 
  • Provide engineering support to operational field sites for implementation and issue resolution.

Requirements:

US Citizenship or Permanent Residency required. All applicants must have resided in the United States for the past 3 years.

On-site presence will be as required by the FAA.

  • Bachelor of Science in an Engineering discipline; will give consideration to other technical degrees such as computer science, mathematics, physics, aerospace or chemistry but this labor category requires accreditation by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET)  
  • Hardware experience desired and FAA experience is a strong plus
  • Linux experience at the user level is desired
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with a focus on customer responsiveness
  • Ability to pass an FAA background investigation (US Citizenship or Permanent Residency required)
  • Travel up to 25%.
