Job description

Moderate/Severe Special Education Teacher

Vallejo, CA | Onsite | Full School Year

Position Overview

The Moderate/Severe (ESN) Special Education Teacher provides specialized instruction and support to K–12 students with moderate to severe disabilities. This role focuses on individualized education, life skills development, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and implementation of compliant IEPs that support academic and functional growth.

Assignment Details
  • Location: Vallejo, CA
  • Duration: Approximately 36 weeks (2026–2027 school year)
  • Schedule: Monday–Friday, 35 hours per week
  • Modality: In-person classroom
  • Travel: Travel stipends and packages available
Grade Level & Classroom Type
  • Grade Levels: K–12 & adult transition up to age 22
  • Classroom Setting: Moderate/Severe (ESN) Special Education
Primary Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Provide direct instruction tailored to students with moderate to severe disabilities
  • Design lessons aligned with general education standards when appropriate
  • Support development of life skills, independence, and transition planning
  • Collaborate with families, administrators, and related service providers
  • Coordinate IEP implementation with general education staff
  • Monitor and document student progress and assessment data
  • Maintain accurate records in compliance with state and federal regulations
  • Support and guide paraprofessionals and instructional aides
  • Maintain a structured, supportive, and organized classroom environment
Minimum Requirements
  • Valid California Moderate/Severe Education Specialist Credential — REQUIRED
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution preferred
  • Valid state teaching credential as required by contract
  • Minimum of one year of classroom teaching experience preferred
  • Preferred certifications:
    • Standard Elementary Teaching
    • Standard Secondary Teaching
    • Special Education Teaching Credential
    • Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS1) endorsement
  • Compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations
  • CPR certification if applicable
  • TB questionnaire, PPD, or chest X-ray per requirements
  • Current health certificate per state or contract standards
  • Strong communication and basic computer skills
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
