Engineering Tech / Petro Analyst (Business Analyst II)

Location: Midland, TX

Job Type: Contract

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Duration: Initial 1-year contract with potential for extension


Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Tech / Petro Analyst (Business Analyst II) to support the Upstream Wells Servicing Operations team in Midland, TX. This role will work closely with engineers, operations personnel, leadership, and IT teams to manage operational data, develop reporting solutions, improve data quality, and support critical business processes.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in oil and gas operations data, reporting and analytics, dashboard development, SQL querying, and process improvement. This position offers an opportunity to play a key role in enhancing data-driven decision-making across the organization.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support data governance initiatives to ensure accuracy, consistency, and reliability of operational and production data.
  • Design, develop, and maintain dashboards, reports, and data visualization tools for engineering, operations, and leadership teams.
  • Build and optimize reporting solutions to improve performance, accessibility, and user experience.
  • Develop automated workflows and reporting tools that integrate with operational data sources.
  • Create and maintain data validation and QA/QC processes to improve data integrity and reporting accuracy.
  • Generate exception reports and investigate data discrepancies across multiple systems.
  • Write and maintain SQL queries for data extraction, transformation, reporting, and analysis.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve data-related issues impacting business operations.
  • Support system enhancements, upgrades, testing activities, and workflow improvements.
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, IT, and external vendors on continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and analytical summaries for management and executive leadership.
  • Develop user documentation and provide training and support for reporting tools and systems.


Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience supporting engineering, drilling, completions, production, well servicing, or other oil and gas operations.
  • Strong experience with data analysis, reporting, and dashboard development.
  • Advanced SQL skills, including writing and troubleshooting complex queries.
  • Experience working with large operational datasets and multiple business systems.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Experience with data validation, QA/QC processes, and data integrity management.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Power BI, Spotfire, or similar visualization tools.
  • Experience with Databricks and Python.
  • Knowledge of WellView and other oil and gas operational systems.
  • Experience with ProCount, Execute, or similar business applications.
  • Experience developing automated workflows and self-service reporting solutions.
  • Experience serving as a subject matter expert (SME) for reporting platforms and operational data systems.
