Our vision is to transform how the world uses information to enrich life for all.

Micron Technology is a world leader in innovating memory and storage solutions that accelerate the transformation of information into intelligence, inspiring the world to learn, communicate and advance faster than ever.

Summary of the Role

The Sr. Engineer (E3) on the Firmware & Product Testing (FPT) team supports the validation of enterprise SSD firmware through test development, automation, execution, and failure analysis. This role focuses on NVMe front-end features and customer specifications while leveraging Python-based automation and data-driven techniques to improve test coverage, efficiency, and product quality. Working closely with firmware engineers, senior mentors, and AI/ML contributors, the engineer will gain hands‑on experience at the intersection of firmware validation and artificial intelligence, helping drive innovative and scalable testing solutions.

Department Introduction

The Firmware & Product Test (FPT) team at Micron Technology plays a critical role in validating SSD firmware functionality and compliance. The team develops comprehensive verification plans, implements automated test solutions in Python, and ensures adherence to NVMe standards and security requirements. Validation activities span simulation, FPGA prototyping, and hardware platforms, utilizing white-box, grey-box, and black-box methodologies throughout the firmware development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute firmware verification plans for enterprise SSD customer specifications and NVMe front‑end features, including SMART, Trim, Get Log Page, and OCP compliance.
  • Design, implement, and maintain automated test solutions using Python and established FPT frameworks to improve test coverage and regression efficiency.
  • Apply white‑box, grey‑box, and black‑box testing methodologies to validate firmware functionality, reliability, and robustness.
  • Investigate test failures, perform root cause analysis, and document findings while collaborating with firmware and cross‑functional engineering teams.
  • Communicate validation results, quality metrics, risks, and mitigation plans to stakeholders and management.
  • Participate in code reviews and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance automation quality, maintainability, and testing effectiveness.
  • Leverage AI‑assisted development tools, Generative AI, and AI‑driven workflows to accelerate test creation, debugging, data analysis, and reporting.
  • Collaborate with firmware engineers, data scientists, and AI/ML practitioners to develop intelligent automation solutions for anomaly detection, failure analysis, and validation workflow optimization.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree with approximately 3+ years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong Python programming skills with experience in automation, scripting, and data analysis using libraries such as NumPy and pandas.
  • Solid understanding of software testing fundamentals, including test automation, debugging, and validation methodologies.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to investigate complex technical issues and interpret data‑driven results.
  • Experience or demonstrated interest in Artificial Intelligence, including the use of AI tools, Large Language Models (LLMs), prompt engineering, or AI‑assisted software development workflows.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with NVMe protocols, SSD firmware validation, embedded systems, or hardware testing concepts.
  • Exposure to machine learning frameworks and techniques, such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit‑learn, anomaly detection, or predictive analytics.
  • Familiarity with software development best practices, including Git, CI/CD pipelines, code reviews, and agile development methodologies.
  • Experience building or integrating AI‑powered automation solutions using Generative AI, LLMs, Agentic AI frameworks, or AI copilots.
  • Hands‑on experience leveraging AI‑assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Microsoft Copilot, Claude Code, or similar productivity platforms.
