Position: Registered NurseI, II, III

Salary Range: $49,948.80 to $78,037.84

About NMSH:

North Mississippi State Hospital (NMSH) is an acute care psychiatric facility offering treatment and services for mentally ill adult men and women in northeast Mississippi. The 50-bed hospital was opened in Tupelo in 1999. NMSH is a facility of the Mississippi Department of Mental Health.

POSITION SUMMARY:  Provides quality care and treatment to adults diagnosed with mental illness, in an acute-care setting. Implements the nursing process in an organized, systematic manner to include assessment planning, intervention, and evaluation. Actively participates in treatment planning.

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION REQUIRED: 

  • Current Mississippi (or Compact) RN License is required
  • Experience is not required.

Jobs in this family perform nursing services that affect patient care and are accountable for the health maintenance/restoration, health promotion, disease prevention, and the quality of care delivered.

  • The functions within this job family will vary by level, but may include the following:
  • Administer medications and other prescribed treatments.
  • Take vital signs.
  • Assist with care plan activities.
  • Observe and record patient conditions.
  • Review medical records/charts.
  • Plan, develop, evaluate, and/or monitor nursing and/or public health programs, services, and contracts.

Positions allocated to this series may perform the duties described, or specialize in areas of public health, infection control, quality assurance, taking care of patients with mental illness, or other specialties. The work assigned to positions in this series ranges from administering medications and taking vital signs to directing a total nursing program.

Nurse I

First-level Professional Registered Nurse accountable for serving as a member of the medical treatment team. Accountable for reviewing medical records, observing the provision of medical care provided to patients by facility staff, coordinating assessments from other disciplines, incident reporting and investigation, and discharge planning in a patient care setting. May assign the work of LPNs, nurse assistants, and other technical personnel. May provide transport to offsite appointments and application of restraints when necessary.

Typically requires state licensure as a Registered Nurse and 0-1 years of experience as a Registered Nurse.

Nurse II

Second-level Professional Registered Nurse accountable for serving as a member of the medical treatment team. Accountable for reviewing medical records, observing the provision of medical care provided to patients by facility staff, coordinating assessments from other disciplines, incident reporting and investigation, and discharge planning. Oversees and reviews the work and documentation of LPNs, nurse assistants, and other technical personnel. May oversee other RNs on a shift.

Typically requires state licensure as a Registered Nurse and 1-2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse.

Nurse III

Seasoned Professional Registered Nurse accountable for serving as a member of the medical treatment team. Accountable for overseeing more complex or sensitive care, participating as a member of multidisciplinary team providing direct care in a patient care setting, or providing nursing and health services in a public health program. May be responsible for mentoring or directing the work of lower-level employees. May serve as a shift supervisor.

Typically requires state licensure as a Registered Nurse and 2+ years of experience as a Registered Nurse.

Salary/Compensation: $49,949 - $78,038 per year
