Basic Job Functions:
Vulcraft of New York, Inc. is seeking a talented and ambitious individual who is looking to grow while assisting the team in designing safe, accurate and cost effective structural open-web steel joist girders, joists and steel deck at the plant located in Chemung, NY. This teammate will also be expected to work closely with all other departments of the business including: estimating, sales, detailing, project management, finance, production and shipping to ensure the complete success of each project. Our expectation is to create and maintain strong partnerships within our team as well as with our customers to yield powerful results. A positive attitude, a strong desire to help others while working with a team are a requirement for this individual.
As a structural design engineer you will be responsible for:
• Reviewing contract documents and noting important information
• Effectively communicating unique design requirements to detailing department
• Utilizing our design software to safely and accurately design open-web steel joists and joist girders
• Understand and communicate the properties and specific uses of steel floor and roof deck
• Engineering small unique projects within our plants to keep us operating at a competition-leading rate
• Work closely with all departments to grow as an individual and an engineer
• Be willing and able to meet with engineers and architects in the Northeast construction market and discuss our product advantages and team processes
• Visit job sites to better understand the construction process
Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead and uphold safety practices, policies, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.
Compensation Data:
Salary compensation for this position has a starting range from $82,014 - $99,694 a year, depending on relevant experience and PE status, and is also eligible for our annual ROA bonus and annual Profit Sharing bonus.
Vulcraft of New York offers a generous annual Return on Asset Bonus, with a potential range of up to 33%, with a 10 year average of 18.46%. Additionally, Nucor Corporation provides all teammates with an annual Profit-sharing bonus, which has a 10 year average of 14.14%.
Minimum Qualifications:
• BS in Civil/Structural Engineering or related discipline from an ABET accredited program or ability to acquire within 12 months
• Pass Result on Fundamental of Engineering (FE) Exam or ability to pass before starting employment
• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a structural or civil engineer
Preferred Qualifications:
• 2 years engineering experience
• PE license or desire, ability, and dedication to obtain a license
• Willing and able to relocate for future promotional leadership opportunities within Nucor
