We are looking for a talented Manufacturing Engineer - Senior to join our team specializing in Manufacturing for our CDBS (Cummins Drivetrain and Braking Systems) location at York, SC.

  • Advanced Machine Safety Expertise: At least 3+ years of handson experience leading machine safeguarding programs, including risk assessments, safetysystem evaluation, and implementation of Safety Functions (SRPCS) per ISO 138491 using tools like SISTEMA.
  • Functional Safety Certification: Certification as a Functional Safety Engineer (CSME or TUV) to validate expertise in machinery functional safety requirements.
  • Strong Controls & Automation Knowledge: Deep technical understanding of electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and automation control systems, including the ability to read and interpret complex schematics.
  • Standards & Regulatory Mastery: Working knowledge of Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC and detailed application of key standards such as ISO 138491/2, IEC 62061, ISO 12100, and relevant ANSI/ISO regulations.
  • Safety Hardware & System Proficiency: Familiarity with a wide range of safeguarding technologies - interlocks, presencesensing devices, safety relays, safety PLCs, safetyrated drives/servos, and pneumatic/hydraulic safety valves.
  • Testing, Validation & Troubleshooting Skills: Ability to use electrical/mechanical test equipment, commission and troubleshoot safety functions, and program logic solvers, safety relays, and HMIs.
  • Leadership in CrossFunctional Safety Work: Experience leading multidisciplinary risk assessments, guiding teams with limited safety knowledge, managing consultants, and driving companywide machinesafety improvement plans.

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

  • Deep Machine Safety Expertise: You need strong knowledge of global, national, and local machinesafety regulations to interpret requirements and guide plants, projects, and leadership effectively.
  • Risk Assessment & Technical Evaluation Skills: You must be able to perform machine safety risk assessments, inspections, verifications, validations, and system design reviews - including safeguarding and functional safety evaluations.
  • Controls & Systems Knowledge: Success requires handson understanding of electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and automation control systems, plus the ability to read or reverseengineer detailed control schematics when documentation is missing.
  • Ability to Develop Standards & Processes: You need the capability to create and maintain internal guidelines, specifications, maintenance programs, testing protocols, and documentation related to machine safeguarding and functional safety.
  • Strong Collaboration Across Global Teams: You must work effectively with remote, crossdisciplinary teams and the Global Manufacturing Engineering group to ensure consistent application of machinesafety standards worldwide.
  • Incident Investigation & ProblemSolving Skills: You need the ability to lead or support rootcause analyses for machinesafety incidents and drive corrective and preventive actions across multiple sites.
  • Training & Communication Capability: You must be able to train employees, communicate new requirements, and translate complex safety concepts into clear guidance for diverse audiences.
  • Project Leadership & Vendor Management: You need the ability to act as SME on capital projects, manage external consultants, support remediation work, and ensure all safety solutions meet Cummins and industry standards.

Education, Licenses, Certifications:
College, university, or degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) or related field, or equivalent experience required.
