Job Description

Cricut is looking for a Senior Systems Quality Engineer to help ensure our products work reliably as complete systems. This role combines hardware test engineering, product quality, reliability testing, Test Development Engineering (TDE), and system-level validation across hardware, firmware, software, manufacturing, and customer use cases.

This person will support new product development from early prototypes through mass production and sustaining phases, helping identify risks, validate product performance, troubleshoot failures, and ensure Cricut products are ready for customers. The ideal candidate is hands-on, data-driven, comfortable working in a lab environment, and able to partner closely with hardware, firmware, software, manufacturing, supplier quality, and operations teams.

This role will also work closely with Cricut’s ODM and JDM manufacturing partners to monitor and improve product quality throughout all phases of development, manufacturing, and sustaining support. The engineer will play a key role in ensuring Cricut cutting machines and heated products meet system-level quality expectations across software, hardware, electrical, firmware, calibration, and manufacturing readiness prior to release.

Role Summary

This role is for someone who can evaluate product quality from the complete customer experience, not just individual components. The right candidate will be comfortable working hands-on across hardware, firmware, software, electrical systems, manufacturing processes, and calibration systems to ensure Cricut products are reliable, manufacturable, and ready for customer release.

This engineer will support Test Development Engineering activities throughout product development and mass production to ensure products are properly tested, calibrated, validated, and production-ready. The role will additionally support ODM/JDM manufacturing engagements, helping maintain product quality and manufacturing consistency across global manufacturing partners.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute test plans for new products, including environmental, reliability, durability, and system-level validation testing.
    • Test and troubleshoot hardware, firmware, software, connectivity, and manufacturing-related issues todetermine root cause. 
    • Validate that complete Cricut systems work as intended, including device behavior, app-to-device communication, firmware updates, calibration, error handling, and customer workflows. 
    • Analyze test data, field issues, manufacturing data, and product performance trends to identify risks and improvement opportunities. 
    • Support product readiness reviews at EVT, DVT, MPQ, and MP milestones. 
    • Lead or support root-cause analysis, 8D investigations, CAPA actions, and corrective/preventive improvements. 
    • Create clear test reports, risk summaries, failure analyses, and recommendations for cross-functional teams. 
    • Work with hardware, firmware, software, manufacturing, supplier quality, and customer support teams to resolve product issues. 
    • Support product risk analysis activities such as DFMEA, PFMEA, NUDD, and lessons learned reviews. 
    • Develop new test methods, improve existing tests, and help automate testing where practical. 
    • Train and guide technicians or lab personnel during test setup, execution, and data collection. 
    • Maintain lab equipment, test fixtures, supplies, and documentation needed for reliable testing. 
    • Stay current on relevant quality, reliability, test, and industry standards.
  • Partner closely with ODM and JDM manufacturing partners to monitor product quality throughout NPI development, manufacturing ramp, mass production, and sustaining phases. 
  • Support Test Development Engineering (TDE) activities, including development and validation of manufacturing test strategies, calibration processes, fixtures, and production test coverage. 
  • Ensure Cricut products are thoroughly tested and calibrated throughout development and production to maintain consistent system-level performance and manufacturing quality. 
  • Perform hands-on system-level validation and troubleshooting across Cricut cutting machines and heated products, including hardware, electrical, firmware, software, and connectivity systems. 
  • Drive system-wide quality readiness for product releases by identifying and resolving cross-functional issues impacting customer experience, reliability, manufacturability, and product performance. 
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Material Science, ora relatedtechnical field. 
    • 8+ years of hands-on experience in product quality, hardware test, reliability, validation, systems test, embedded systems, manufacturing quality, or a related field. 
    • Experience testing and troubleshooting electromechanical products. 
    • Ability to investigate issues across hardware, firmware, software, manufacturing processes, and customer use cases. 
    • Experience creating test plans, running tests, analyzing results, and documenting findings. 
    • Knowledge of quality and reliability tools such as 8D, CAPA, DFMEA, PFMEA, SPC, DOE, gage R&R, Cp/Cpk, or design for reliability. 
    • Strong data-analysis and problem-solving skills. 
    • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation. 
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
    • Ability to work independently, make sound technical judgments, and build strong cross-functional relationships. 
    • Demonstrated ability to lead projects, mentor others, and influence cross-functional teams. 
    • Willingness and ability to work on-site in the South Jordan, Utah office Monday through Friday.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with connected consumer products, embedded systems, smart devices, printers, cutting machines, robotics, automation equipment, or other electromechanical products.
    • Experience with motors, sensors, encoders, control systems, circuit boards, calibration systems, or power systems.
    • Experience testing firmware-controlled hardware behavior, device communication, firmware updates, error handling, or app-to-device workflows. 
    • Experience with USB, BLE, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, serial communication, or connectivity reliability testing. 
    • Experience with Python or other scripting tools for test automation, data collection, or analysis. 
    • Experience using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, environmental chambers, data acquisition systems, protocol analyzers, or custom test fixtures. 
    • Experience with manufacturing validation, supplier quality, first-article inspections, site audits, or production-line testing. 
    • Working knowledge of UL, ASTM, ISO, IEC, or similar standards. 
    • Experience with Minitab, JMP, MATLAB, LabVIEW, Tableau, Power BI, or similar tools. 
    • Experience with GD&T, CAD, FEA, CFD, infrared thermography, or advanced reliability analysis. 
    • ASQ, Six Sigma, reliability engineering, or similar certification. 
    • Experience with APQP or structured product-development phase-gate processes. 
    • Project management experience.
  • Experience working with ODM/JDM manufacturing models and global contract manufacturing partners. 
  • Experience with manufacturing test development, calibration systems, production fixtures, and factory test automation. 
  • Experience validating complex electromechanical systems across hardware, firmware, software, and electrical domains.
