Job description

Your role in our mission

As the first peer to peer lending marketplace in the United States, Prosper has a history of innovation. As a growing company that is profitable and generates cash (rare in the Valley), Prosper also has a history of generating results.

The Senior Director, Credit Risk Analytics is a pivotal leadership role responsible for credit underwriting, pricing, verification strategies, and the overall credit performance of our Personal Loan business. In this role, you will review, analyze, and elevate our credit, pricing, and verification strategies by leveraging ML/AI models and data to drive profitable growth and attractive investor returns.

You will own the entire lifecycle of credit risk management. Because this touches every part of our business, you must be a strong collaborator who can work seamlessly across Capital Markets, Product, Engineering, Legal, Compliance, Operations, and Marketing.

The ideal candidate brings deep consumer lending expertise but remains endlessly curious. You will be a hands-on leader who guides the team in developing automated decision-making strategies, owning the end-to-end process to support profitable growth while effectively managing credit and fraud losses. We are looking for a passionate business and people leader with the acumen and domain expertise to tackle challenges in truly innovative ways, ensuring we continually deliver on our mission of advancing financial well-being.

How Youโ€™ll Make an Impact
  • Innovate and Optimize: Develop cutting-edge credit, pricing, and verification strategies to continually enhance credit and fraud performance using data, ML/AI models, and advanced analytics tools. Bring an out-of-the-box mindset to our credit and fraud risk management framework, balancing risk-return trade-offs with creative solutions.
  • Drive Strategy and Action: Translate complex findings into actionable enhancements. Present data-driven recommendations to executive leadership and the Credit Risk Committee, always weighing business impact and resource allocation.
  • Master External Communication: Serve as a trusted voice to our investors, translating complex data into clear, compelling narratives and insights that build confidence and transparency.
  • Champion Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner seamlessly with the Capital Markets, Product, Marketing, Operations, Legal, Compliance, and Engineering teams. Cultivate an open-minded environment where internal and external stakeholders can work together to implement and monitor high-performing strategies.
  • Manage Risk Appetite: Ensure credit losses consistently remain within the companyโ€™s defined risk appetite. Oversee credit loss forecasting and stress testing exercises.
  • Discover New Capabilities: Identify, evaluate, and build business cases for new vendors, alternative data sources, and emerging technologies.
  • Monitor and React: Analyze portfolio performance at a granular segment level on an ongoing basis to identify key performance drivers, spot emerging trends, and implement strategy changes as needed.
Skills That Will Help You Thrive
  • Education: Masterโ€™s degree or higher in Business, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Economics, or a related quantitative field.
  • Experience: 12+ years of experience managing credit risk within the Credit Card or Personal Loan sectors. Deep knowledge of credit and fraud risk management, with a strong business acumen. (Experience in loss forecasting is a strong plus).
  • Leadership: 7+ years of people leadership experience, with a proven ability to mentor, develop, and inspire high-performing, innovative teams.
  • Exceptional Communication: Outstanding written and verbal communication skills. You can articulate complex analyses and technical processes clearly, succinctly, and persuasively to internal stakeholders, external partners, investors, and executive leadership.
  • Collaborative Mindset: A strong team player and a relationship-builder. You possess a business-owner mentality and an open-minded approach that allows you to partner effectively across diverse functions and viewpoints.
  • Agility: Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines without compromising quality. A quick, agile thinker who can confidently and constructively address questions on unfamiliar topics with clarity and conviction.
  • Thought Leadership: The capability to build, refine, and elevate credit strategy frameworks through structured, yet highly innovative approaches.
  • Flexibility: Ability to work productively in a hybrid environment, balancing remote and in-person collaboration effectively.
Resources to help you prosper
  • A connected experience: We prioritize high-touch collaboration and flexibility. Whether you are working from our San Francisco or Phoenix offices or joining us as a fully remote team member, we provide the digital-first tools and intentional culture to keep you synced and supported
  • Invested in your future: A competitive salary and a 401(k) with a 5% company match to help you build long-term financial security
  • Holistic well-being: We provide the resources you need to thrive, from flexible time off and paid parental leave to an annual wellness allowance and comprehensive health coverage
  • Professional & personal growth: Take advantage of a suite of premium perks, including Udemy access, childcare assistance, pet insurance, and a bevy of additional savings through Beneplace
