Job description

About Big Shot Pictures

Big Shot Pictures is a next generation animation company founded by Brian Robbins that produces the franchises of tomorrow. With a distinctive digital-first approach, the company builds global animation franchises across all platforms – from digital to theatrical, gaming to streaming, and consumer products to experiences.

About The Role

We are seeking a well-rounded animator who can bring a sequence of shots from start to finish within an Unreal Engine–first, real-time pipeline for episodic content. This is a hands-on, creative leadership role that combines layout with a blocking pass in animation. This ideal candidate is comfortable with staging and animating and is interested in leveraging emerging tools, including AI-assisted workflows.

This role will support the development of stylized, high-quality content for kids and family audiences, requiring a strong sense of performance, appeal, and character storytelling.

This is a contract role which would report in-person at our studio in Los Angeles

Responsibilities

  • Execute enhanced layout to create a 3D Board Animatic for episodic productions
  • Animate directly in Unreal Engine, utilizing Sequencer, Control Rig, and MetaHuman Animator workflows
  • Troubleshoot and problem-solve pipeline issues independently
  • Collaborate closely with technical directors and the animation production team to leverage emerging tools, including AI-assisted workflows and generative tooling, to achieve clean output systems at scale
  • Iterate rapidly on animation based on feedback, ensuring high-quality results that meet creative and technical standards
  • Support asset optimization and iteration within a real-time pipeline
  • Contribute to maintaining efficient workflows and production best practices

Required Qualifications

  • Strong professional experience animating in Unreal Engine (Sequencer, Control Rig, MetaHuman Animator)
  • Background in storyboarding, layout, or previs
  • Proven ability to utilize the sequencer to create a full cinematic or short
  • Comfortable working independently with fast, evolving workflows
  • Experience animating episodic, serialized, or narrative-driven conten

Nice to Have

  • Creature and non-human animation experience
  • Experience with mocap pipelines
  • Experience working with Unreal Engine Blueprint scripting
  • Interest in leveraging emerging tools, including AI-assisted workflows, as an extension of the creative process to improve efficiency and iteration
