The Automation Engineer is responsible for identifying, designing, implementing, documenting, and supporting enterprise automation and integration solutions that improve operational efficiency, reduce manual effort, enhance data quality, and accelerate digital transformation across the organization. This role serves as a technical bridge between business operations and enterprise systems, leveraging platforms including Workato, Freshservice, Microsoft Power Platform, SharePoint Online, Microsoft 365, and other cloud applications to automate complex business processes and system integrations.

Working as a member of the Data team, the Automation Engineer partners closely with Information Technology, Human Resources, Operations, Finance, Facilities, Marketing, and Corporate Services to analyze business processes, design scalable automation solutions, and maintain critical operational workflows. The role combines business process engineering, systems integration, workflow automation, solution architecture, and platform administration to deliver reliable, maintainable solutions that create measurable business value.

The Automation Engineer reports directly to the Director of Data Architecture and collaborates closely with Data Engineers, Database Administrators, Business Analysts, Automation Engineers, and functional business stakeholders across the organization
Responsibilities

Enterprise Automation & Solution Development

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and support enterprise automation solutions that improve operational efficiency and reduce manual effort.
  • Build scalable, supportable solutions utilizing Workato, Freshservice, Microsoft Power Platform, SharePoint Online, and Microsoft 365 services.
  • Design automation frameworks that support onboarding, offboarding, employee lifecycle management, service delivery, operational compliance, and business administration functions.
  • Create reusable automation components, workflows, templates, and integration patterns that can be leveraged across multiple business processes.
  • Develop automated approval, routing, notification, and intake processes that support organizational policies and operational requirements.
  • Produce technical solution designs, workflow diagrams, dependency maps, and implementation documentation.
  • Measure and report automation effectiveness through metrics including time savings, reduction of manual effort, process cycle time improvements, workflow adoption, and operational efficiency gains.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to support organizational adoption of automation solutions through training, documentation, communication, and change management activities.

Business Systems Integration

  • Design and maintain integrations between enterprise applications, cloud platforms, and operational systems.
  • Build and support Workato recipes, API integrations, web services, and event-driven automation solutions.

  • Design and administer Freshservice automation solutions, service catalogs, workflows, custom objects, and operational processes.
  • Develop service request automation, ticket routing logic, approval workflows, task orchestration, and fulfillment processes.
  • Create scalable service delivery solutions supporting employee onboarding, offboarding, asset management, shipping processes, facilities requests, and operational administration.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to translate operational requirements into automated workflows and service management solutions.
  • Drive continuous improvement of service delivery through process redesign and automation.

Platform Operations & Support

  • Provide administration and ongoing support for automation platforms and associated business systems.
  • Monitor workflow performance, automation execution, integration health, and system exceptions.
  • Participate in troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and resolution of production issues.
  • Support environment management, deployment activities, release management, and change control processes.
  • Manage service accounts, security permissions, connectors, authentication mechanisms, and platform configurations.

Documentation, Governance & Continuous Improvement

  • Create and maintain solution runbooks, technical documentation, process documentation, architectural diagrams, and support procedures.
  • Establish and promote automation standards, governance practices, and development best practices.
  • Participate in peer reviews, solution reviews, and architecture discussions.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend opportunities to enhance automation capabilities and operational effectiveness.
  • Help define enterprise standards for workflow development, integration architecture, and automation governance.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience developing automation solutions using Microsoft Power Platform.
  • Experience building Power Automate workflows and Power Apps applications.
  • Experience with Workato or enterprise integration platforms (iPaaS).
  • Experience working with REST APIs and third-party integrations.
  • Experience troubleshooting application and workflow issues.
  • Experience gathering business requirements and translating them into technical solutions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Power Platform governance.
  • Experience with SharePoint Online administration and development.
  • Experience with Freshservice administration and workflow automation.
  • Experience integrating with ERP, CRM, or financial systems.
  • Experience with Dynamics 365 and Deltek Vantagepoint.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Graph API.

The salary range for this full-time role is $66,600.00-$84,333.34 per year. Ranges are determined based on the position, geography, client and industry experience and level, and represent a good faith effort to provide a fair and equitable salary. This range reflects base salary only, and not the total compensation package. Cumming Group reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range, depending on a candidate's experience, skills, and qualifications, including client requirements.
