Job description

Location: Utica / New Hartford, NY Area
Project Dates: August 17–22, 2026
Pay: $38–$40/hour DOE

Project Type: Industrial Plant Shutdown – Temporary Assignment


Genesis is seeking two experienced Industrial Millwright/Welders for a short-term plant shutdown project in the Utica/New Hartford, New York area.

We are looking for well-rounded industrial tradespeople who are comfortable performing mechanical installation and maintenance work in addition to welding and fabrication. This is not a production welding position. Candidates should be able to work alongside an industrial maintenance team, use hand and power tools, perform equipment removal and installation, work from lifts, and assist wherever needed during the shutdown.


Responsibilities

  • Assist with removal and installation of industrial ductwork
  • Assist with installation of dust collection and cyclone equipment
  • Perform industrial welding, patching, and repair work as required
  • Inspect and assist with repairs to dust collection equipment and related components
  • Assist with screw conveyors, rotary valves, dampers, fans, motors, and drives
  • Perform mechanical equipment removal, installation, and maintenance
  • Use basic hand tools, cordless impacts, drills, sockets, wrenches, and related industrial tools
  • Work safely from aerial/man lifts when required
  • Assist technicians with equipment inspections, troubleshooting, and maintenance activities
  • Follow Lockout/Tagout and all site-specific safety procedures
  • Remain flexible as work assignments may change based on conditions discovered during the shutdown


Qualifications

  • Previous industrial millwright, industrial maintenance, boilermaker, or similar heavy industrial experience
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and experience with equipment installation and repair
  • Industrial welding experience required
  • Stick/SMAW and MIG experience required.
  • Experience with industrial ductwork, dust collectors, conveyors, fans, motors, or similar equipment is a plus
  • Proficient with hand and power tools
  • Comfortable working at heights and from aerial lifts
  • Able to work in an active industrial environment around dust collection equipment
  • Must be dependable and able to follow direction in a fast-paced shutdown environment


Safety Requirements

OSHA 30 is required prior to arrival onsite.

Candidates must also have appropriate training and/or experience related to their assigned work, including:

  • Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
  • Fall protection
  • Aerial/man-lift safety
  • PPE
  • Hand and power tool safety
  • Hazard communication
  • Welding/hot-work safety


Candidates performing welding must be experienced and qualified to perform industrial welding safely.

Random drug testing may be conducted by the customer during the shutdown.


Required Identification


Each worker must bring one of the following onsite:

  • Valid passport, OR
  • Birth certificate


Required Tools


Candidates must bring a basic industrial hand-tool set including:

  • sockets/ratchets,
  • combination wrenches,
  • adjustable wrench,
  • screwdrivers,
  • pliers/channel locks,
  • Allen keys,
  • tape measure,
  • flashlight/headlamp,
  • small pry bar
  • tool bag or belt.
  • A cordless impact driver/drill with charged batteries, impact sockets, and bits will also be required.


Required PPE

  • Hard hat
  • Safety glasses
  • Work gloves
  • Steel- or composite-toe boots
  • Long-sleeve high-visibility shirt
  • Long work pants — no shorts
  • Hearing protection
  • Fall-protection harness/lanyard or SRL as required
  • Welding PPE appropriate for hot-work activities

This is shutdown work, so candidates must be willing to stay productive, work as part of a team, and assist with different industrial maintenance and installation tasks as conditions require.
