Job description

Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Automation Technician to support a highly automated food manufacturing operation. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex electrical and automation problems while keeping production running efficiently.

You'll serve as the plant's automation expert, troubleshooting PLCs, industrial networks, HMI systems, and robotic equipment while supporting maintenance and continuous improvement initiatives. This is a hands-on role that combines controls engineering, industrial maintenance, and manufacturing technology in a modern production environment.

Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, program, and maintain PLCs, HMIs, and industrial control systems.
  • Create, troubleshoot, and support PLC communication networks for existing and new production equipment.
  • Maintain PLC software backups and ensure programming laptops remain current.
  • Diagnose electrical, controls, and automation issues to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Support robotic palletizing systems, including learning and maintaining Yaskawa robotic equipment.
  • Assist with installation, modification, and commissioning of new automated equipment.
  • Train maintenance technicians on PLC troubleshooting and ladder logic fundamentals.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance documentation and PM records.
  • Help maintain a safe, organized, and reliable manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

  • 2-3+ years of industrial automation or controls experience.
  • Experience troubleshooting and programming PLCs in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and understand PLC ladder logic.
  • Experience supporting industrial networks, HMIs, and automated production equipment.
  • Experience with robotics, preferably Yaskawa, is a plus.
  • Food manufacturing experience is preferred but not required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and computerized maintenance management (CMMS/PM) software.
  • Associate degree in Automation Technology, Mechatronics, Electrical Technology, or a related technical field is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
