Job description

Position Overview:

The Senior Oracle Cloud Database Administrator is responsible for architecting, implementing, securing, and optimizing Oracle Cloud-based database solutions utilized by our corporate and municipal customers. This role includes managing Oracle Autonomous Databases, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) DB Systems, Exadata Cloud Services, and database migrations to the cloud. The Senior Database Administrator i ensures high availability, performance tuning, automation, and compliance across mission-critical database environments. This individual will work under the guidance of the Database Manager to develop/support database solutions to support various company initiatives.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement scalable database architectures on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
  • Manage OCI database services including Autonomous Transaction Processing (ATPD) and OCI GoldenGate.
  • Oversee installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, and lifecycle maintenance of Oracle Databases (19c and later).
  • Perform backup and recovery operations using RMAN, Data Guard, and OCInative tooling.
  • Optimize database performance through SQL tuning, indexing strategies, execution plan analysis, and AWR/ASH diagnostics.
  • Configure and maintain Oracle Data Guard, Active Data Guard, and full disasterrecovery environments.
  • Lead migrations of onprem Oracle databases into Oracle GovCloud using bestpractice methods.
  • Manage OCI resources including compute instances, databases, storage, networking, and block/object storage.
  • Develop and maintain InfrastructureasCode using Terraform and OCI Resource Manager.
  • Implement highavailability strategies, autoscaling, and loadbalancing architectures.
  • Enforce database security policies including encryption, auditing, access control, and Oracle Vault key management.
  • Manage user roles, privileges, authentication, and identity integration with OCI IAM and IDCS.
  • Design and execute Oracle onprem to OCI migrations using Data Pump, Transportable Tablespaces, GoldenGate, or RMAN backup/restore.
  • Implement proactive monitoring using OCI Monitoring, Oracle Enterprise Manager, and Log Analytics.
  • Analyze incidents, troubleshoot complex issues, and deliver rootcause resolutions for internal and external database applications.
  • Perform database cloning with data masking from production to lower environments across onprem and OCI Autonomous Databases.
  • Implement DDL/DML scripts in alignment with SCRUMbased application release cycles.
  • Automate recurring tasks using SQL, PL/SQL, and scripting languages.
  • Identify and recommend opportunities for application, process, and operational improvements.
  • Promote adherence to departmental and softwaredevelopment standards.
  • Support knowledge sharing, learning, and enablement across the DBA team.
  • Set a professional example through strong performance, leadership, and consistent reliability.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • 8+ years of Oracle Database Administration experience across onprem Oracle and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
  • 3+ years of handson experience with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
  • Proven ability to independently own, manage, and deliver tasks and projects with minimal direction.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex issues autonomously.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and adopt new technologies and applications with minimal guidance.
  • Positive, solutionsoriented "cando" attitude toward problemsolving and task completion.
  • Deep experience with Oracle RAC, ASM, Exadata (onprem or cloud), Active Data Guard, performance tuning, RMAN, and OCI GoldenGate replication.
  • Strong knowledge of Linux OS administration.
  • Proficient in scripting using OCI CLI, Python, Bash, Perl, PowerShell, and related tools.
  • Expertise in backup strategies and all facets of database recovery, including simple restores and pointintime recovery.
  • Experience managing and supporting Very Large Databases (VLDB).
  • Successful completion of the Nlets fingerprinting background assessment.
