Job Description and Qualifications
J H Operating Company, LLC, a Project Managment, Engineering, Procurement, and Construction management firm primarily supporting the upstream and midstream oil and gas industry, has an opening in Baton Rouge, LA for a Project Engineer.
The Facility Engineer will manage projects from concept to commissioning by leading and/or participating in the design, specification and procurement, and the project management of each facility. The role will support the team on primarily new capital industrial infrastructure projects such as multi-well production facilities, large central gathering stations, oil terminals, and saltwater disposals. The role and skill set is a key position in expanding JH’s services to the midstream and upstream sectors.
The position will report to Derek Blough, Engineering & Design Supervisor.


The roles primary responsibilities are as follows:

  • Client engagement
  • Treat the client with respect and professionalism at all times.
  • Seek to understand their needs and delivery timely solutions.
  • Understand and manage your personal performance to promote JH teamwork and culture, while enhancing customer satisfaction.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all JH and customer information.
  • Responsible for gathering project requirements, developing designs to meet the client’s needs, sizing and procuring equipment, managing construction logistics, invoice review, and client hand over. (Concept to Commission)
  • Prepares sketches of P&IDs for the drawing team to convert to Autodesk and professionalize.
  • Review internally and externally created P&ID, 3D, & Isometric drawings and layouts
  • Participate in creation of P&ID’s, alarm and trip settings, critical safety tables and operating procedures/training manuals.
  • Participate in the hazard review process and other safety evaluations.
  • Participate in process design supported by experience, ProMax, and other in-house tools. When JH either does not have the experience or tool. Engineer is responsible for the research and creating of a process or tool to support the team.
  • Participate and help plan field-commissioning activities including Pre-Startups Safety Reviews (PSSR) and Commissioning
  • Participate in the creation of equipment specifications
  • Participate in administering RFPs for equipment and services.
  • Be/become familiar with ASME, ANSI, and API standards and recommended practices as they relate to a given project
  • Cost Estimation in order to create AFEs for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Timeline and work estimation for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Site Consultant and Vendor management during project execution
  • An estimated 10% of travel time is required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or scientific discipline.
  • Three or more years of experience in upstream Oil & Gas or Midstream/Downstream Petrochemical industry.
  • Ability to make balanced decisions weighing operability, reliability, capital costs, and operating costs.
  • Knowledge, API, ASME and ANSI standards.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively with clients, project team members and other staff. Domestic travel is required.
  • Travel will include trips to plant sites, equipment fabricators, outside engineering firms, and customer locations (estimated at 10 – 15%).
  • Ability to pass an in-depth drug screening.

Preferred:

  • Engineer in training or licensed engineer
